I have a question about dry eyes and computer use.

Do the eyes dry out faster while working on a computer because we tend to blink less or is it the monitor?

Thanks Peter. I ask because I am religious with the 20-20-20 rule except I close my eyes instead of look to a distance. I type mostly with my eyes closed. I print most things so I don't have to stare at the monitor and I find by Noon (I start at 9), my eyes are so awful that the rest of the day is excruciating. I blink much more than I used to but I guess it's still not enough ... I have the monitor dimmed and lights lowered in my office .....

Ericska - I have to spend a lot of time daily on the computer as well, and other than adding blinking reminders, and using the computer programs f.lux. and timeout, the one thing that has helped me significantly is wearing moisture chambers (I am now using 7eye Churadas after trying seemingly every other frame/eyecup design). Blinking, taking time outs, decreasing brightness and Increasing contrast are all still important, but wearing the moisture chambers has been the one aspect that I couldn't do without.

Thank you MGD. I have been looking for them and my opto is on the hunt as well. My prescription is tough but they say they can do it. I'm just waiting!! I will look in to those computer programs you mentioned...

I just downloaded f.lux. I had something like that before and I didn't notice a difference. I will see how this one works ...

Hi Grant - I actually tinted my lenses as well - they are a rosey brown. Apparently this helps with the glare, etc. I notice too that by 1 - 2pm my eyes are shot and the rest of the day is hell ....
