  • Top docs to see

I know sometimes one doctor can make all the difference, and since all the ones I have seen in my area have been so-so, I want to make an effort to see some of the most sought after dry eye doctors in the US.

I know it's somewhat subjective, but could you guys list out the top 5 or so specialists that you would recommend based off of what you've heard? I'd really, really appreciate it.

I'm from Germany but based experience here I would simply suggest to visit university hospitals and from that point on it will be try and error.
At least in germany university hospitals most of the time have better equipment, really speciliaze in the treatment they do (every german university hospital I've been to had like one day per week mainly dedicated to dry eye patients only - no normal doctor I've been to ever had something like that) and of course they are very near to all the research that is done while a normal doctor might not even know about any treatments that have been developed in the recent past.

To be honest though in Germany the universities are not private but financed by the state. Maybe with all those private universities in the US the quality differences are bigger?

To give you one name at least: Dr. Tseng is by far the name I have read most in articles, medical papers etc. about dry eyes.

I agree with Oompa. Look for a college with a school of ophthalmology. Some of them have dry eye programs. They tend to be cheaper, spend more time working with you, answer any and all questions, are up to date on the most recent techniques and research, and have more equipment than most traditional doctor's offices. You might also check this site under Plug a Doc, if you have not already done this. Sending good wishes. I'd suggest that you give a general idea of where you are located as that might help others with suggestions. We really need to be reasonably close to our treatment as by necessity, it is on-going.
