Dry eye and general anesthesia

Hi all. Wondering if anyone has ever had a lengthy surgery with general anesthesia, along with dry eye. I am scheduled for a myomectomy (stupid fibroids) and the surgery is supposed to be approximately 5 hours. I heard that anesthesia has some effect on dry eye since anesthesia makes the eye drier.

Has anyone experienced general anesthesia with severely dry eye? If so, did your dry eye get worse? Did it worsen the symptoms?

I'm praying my surgery goes well and I don't wake up blind!

I was in coma for about 30minutes due to a biopsy to determine if I have celiac disease. My eyes didn't feel any different afterwards.

I've had three surgeries in the past year, one of which was lengthy. It did not affect the dryness of my eyes. You should be fine, but I am not a doctor. Best wishes to you.

Thank you. So when you came out of anesthesia, were your eyes blurry at all?

Thanks. Yes, I've had 30 min to 1 hour procedures as well and it didn't really have much affect.

Hi Chella! I didn't notice any extra blurriness with my eyes, but I was generally blurry all over from the anesthesia! Actually, my eyes felt better for several days following each procedure. I suspect it is because we can't eat before surgery, and I have food problems linked to dry eye. Also, no computer so our eyes are resting. Best wishes to you. I believe you should be fine.
