Disappointing specialist appointment

So after waiting months and months I finally saw the specialist on Friday and she completely dismissed me and my problems.

She said my cornea is not damaged so I am not the type of patient she sees in her clinic and that was that.

I had a whole list of things I wanted to discuss and I filled out HER 5-page questionnaire that she didn't read.

I can't believe doctors can be this irresponsible. So basically what she is saying is "come back when your eyes are damaged".

I receive more help from this site and just researching everything myself. My opto is great but I was hoping the specialist would have something more. I'm so angry but not surprised.....

See if you can find a college with an ophthalmology school and a dry eye division. They will spend lots of time with you and will answer any and all questions. They generally have newer equipment, plenty of time, and are up on the most recent developments. My experience with the typical eye doctor's office is that they shove you in and out of the door. I am not sure they can help it, but agree that it certainly leaves one not feeling very good about the visit.

We all trusted our doctors. They promised us perfect vision. Until we got real problem. If we have real problem then they can't help.One doctor told me an year ago literally that -You will go from one doctor to another, and nobody can't help you because they don't know how. You will be an explorer by yourself.
I have painful eyes after LASIK as you do. I saw at least 5 doctors, and they don't know how to help, but some of them agreed that LASIK created problems. Do you try contacts? They work like bandages and might help even with the dryness. Restasis? Fish oil? Sclerals? Autologous serum drops?

Doctors know nothing about dry eyes. Even if you find good one , where is the interest cauz we dont have any treatment for dry eyes

Like many others, I've had the same experience as you. Finding a great doctor is key to treating eye conditions. Over time I educated and learned to help myself more than all of the doctors I've seen combined.

That is what I must resort to, educating myself and finding out what's going on. I have been to so many eye doctors, all giving me the run around, all giving me these over priced px and none actually helping me. My eyes are so blood red, I want to die. So I'm currently researching via the web on causes and cures...if you guys come across some good sites, please let me know. 2 years of this nightmare with no end in sight and every blood test, every doctor in my area and nothing.

A doctoe I work with suggested being referred to a rheumatologist and neurologist. Im also going to have another MRI done of my eyes. Had one about 10 yrs ago. I am aqueous deficient and MGD and the one doc said the sudden decline could be a rheumatology problem. My eyes are red too, constant burning...i'll let you know what happens.

It is so sad to read the disappointing experiences of our fellow dry eye sufferers with doctors. I too have had the same disappointments with Dr's and I have learned more from this Forum on how to best help my dry eye condition and my sister's. I see another post recommend a college - that is a good idea that I will try. Thank you Rebecca for having this site.

Yes, and the worst part is, when I voiced my concerns - she wrote a horrific letter about me! Yes, I completely agree. I too have learned more from this site and researching myself. My opto is great though, so far but when and if I need a specialist again ...... well .....
