Eye pain worse at night?

My DES problems go in waves. I can go months with no real problems. Right now they are not happy. I've had the feeling of rocks in the outside of my eyes, the burning around my eyes and my right eye, which is always the worst, feels like someone is pressing on it with their finger. But I noticed that at night, my right eye is much worse especially when I'm on a device vs watching TV. Last night my entire eye ached. I put a washcloth between my eye and glasses and that eased the pain.

This morning it was fine, and as the morning goes on I have just the usual minor discomfort when it's acting up. I use my drops which usually helps.

Is it normal to have such huge fluctuations at different times and with close or far vision?
