  • Gunnars Computer Glasses - Do they work?

Hello Dry eye sufferers, I am wondering if anyone has tried the 'Gunnars computer eyeglasses'... They have a yellow tint/anti reflective coating which is supposed to help with eye strain/red eye while on the computer.
    They look like this:

Has anyone ever tried it? The glasses are 70-80 dollars and I don't know if I should fork over that kind of money.
My eyes get really red when I'm on the computer... and being a college student, you're on it daily. Will these glasses help the redness that occurs with staring at a computer screen?
So far there has been hundreds of positive reviews on amazon but I'm still not sure..
    What are your thoughts?

Many of us would fork out more than 70-80 for a pair of glasses to allow longer hour and less strain at a computer. I haven't tried them, but the problem I see is they don't contain a moisture chamber which is absolutely essential for many of us.

Thank you for replying. Would these glasses + a humidifer help?

I have a friend that uses computer glasses and loves them. I think its this brand but I'll find out. I might get them too. Amazon is usually good about returns. The humidifier is a great idea regardless.

I've looked at several of these in the past & liked some enough to want to stock them only couldn't afford it. I think a lot of people here really need a moisture seal to see noticeable benefits but people with more moderate symptoms who aren't wearing any glasses at all could probably benefit a lot from Gunnars for computer use or rather from certain of the Gunnars frames. The one I was really keen on after looking at them was the Halogen because of the size and curvature of the lens. I think Gunnar Optiks had some documentation showing much higher humidity levels behind the lenses compared to without glasses.

Without a moisture seal though, I think you would really need to make sure you're addressing blink rate to get the most benefit from this kind of glasses.

Gunnar glasses were lifesavers for me for about 9 months. i went from being miserable all day at work, without the ability to watch tv, play video games, use the computer, etc., to essentially having my condition completely under control.

last October, i guess i got greedy and went to get punctal plugs for a better fix. since then, my symptoms have gotten severely worse and the glasses have stopped working. i can't explain why, and nobody else has been able to offer any ideas either.

i will say that Best Buy sells these glasses, and before i spent the money to buy the frame i wanted (on Amazon), i bought them and tried them out at Best Buy first, and then returned them. And actually, before i did that, i bought cheaper, amber-tinted computer glasses at CVS to try first, and those helped as well.

I ended up returning mine. Waiting for a refund still but they do give you one after 30 days.

My low vision specialist doctor recommended a company named NOIR Medical Devices. They make glasses/sunglasses in 60 different color shades with 30-40 frame styles. You can choose what color filter and frame style that suit you. On their website ( www.noir-medical.com) they have a page where you look at an image/picture and then choose different shade variants to simulate what it would be like looking through glasses with that color shade. It's pretty cool.

I went with an amber/yellow color shade which helps me with glare and contrast plus computer work. The prices are very reasonable considering they are special order to your choice of shade and frame style. Mine were only $42.00. They are returnable. The company works with you individually until you are satisfied with the glasses. I ended up buying 2 additional pair in different shades and frame styles.
