  • Strange redness in one section of eye, any ideas?

This only happens if i wear soft contact lenses, and ONLY ever happens in my left eye, in the left hand corner.
Also, it doesnt happen every time i wear them, to further complicate things.
It gets itchy and red like these photos show. Any idea what could be the cause?

      Hi Impreza,

I'm not sure what the redness is, but I can tell you I've had the same thing occur to me after I wore soft contacts, only for about 3 hours, which included an hour of swimming in chlorinated pool water. Only one of my eyes is dry, and that eye is the one that got red. For me it was the inside corner of my eye that got red. I assumed that, because it happened in my dry eye, it was either that the tears could not get to that area of the eye and my eye was partially red, just like some folks get all-red eyes due to dry eye. Either that, or because that eye has less of a tear film, maybe the chlorine fumes in the air irritated it. It took two days for it to go away. And although I wore soft contacts successfully for 12 years before I got dry eye, I have not dared to wear contacts since that redness episode. If you find anything out, let me know.

I've had exactly the same thing with my right eye, I thought it was just from the contacts, but when I saw the Dr. he said no it was more than likely just because of the dryness. I have had it come and go, but have not had a problem with that eye and the redness for some time now, what I did was used a drop or two of Lotemax and it would clear it us pretty well, in fact I only put the Lotemax in once or twice a day just one or two days. Hope that helps.

I've never worn contacts, but my eyes look like that on a very good day.

My eyes kind of look like yours: the outer corner is redder than the inner corner. More tiny pink veins around the outer side of eye ball show up when my eyes are irritated (after computer use). But my eyes have 1 or 2 larger/major veins compared with yours. When my eyes are less irritated, still more veins in the outer corner than inner corner just less small veins. When I look to the side (ear side), the outer corner of my eyes would slightly wrinkle. I wish I could figure out why. My red veins are post-lasik dryness related.
