  • Anybody ever quit a job over dry eye?

So I'm a teacher who has fairly recently acquired the pain of dry eye. I had lasik about 15 years ago, but what really threw me for a loop was when I went on hormone birth control pills and then went off and I suddenly had dry eyes which for the past two years have made me crazy. This year I've had pink eye and sick constantly. I've tried omega 3 supplements, humidifiers, but thats only been a drop in the bucket in my very large classroom which has heating and cooling vents that are monsters. I don't have control over the temperature or the ac and heating in my room since its set on timers that no one can seem to fix. It's a fifty year old building which has been plagued with awful issues like mold, pipe issues etc.

The problem is that I think my dry eyes are work related. I am miserable during the school year, but during my time off my eye problems are manageable. I've been applying to other districts and other teaching positions thinking a change in environment will hopefully be what's key. The only problem is that teaching positions in my town are scarce and I have a fairly promising job interview in another town an hour away. The thought of being an hour away from my family is an emotional wrench, but I don't know if I can return for another year.

Has anyone changed jobs for dry eye syndrome? My family thinks I'm overreacting by quiting my job and its making me doubt myself.

I would think the mold problem could trigger awful symptoms with dry eye. Best to get out of that building.

I used to be the same way. I quit countless jobs because of my dry eye. I regret it now and wish I just calmed down and tried to cope better but sometimes you can't. I understand where your coming from.

I completely understand you, but keep in mind that you might find a new job in a worse place.
I was unemployed for 4 months and during that time I thought I was healed! But when I started to work again, everything came back...
