  • Can using too much Muro 128 cause eyes to dry out by morning?

Hi, my concern is that I'm using too much of the ointment and the end result is the muro is drying my eye out? I put in the muro at bedtime around 10pm and I alarm my clock for 3am and I reapply because the 10pm application never gets me through to my 7am wake up time but lately this isn't working either. I'm wondering if me putting in too much at each application is resulting in all the available fluid in my eye being drawn out and by morning there is nothing left in my eye to draw out so I'm left with dry eyes still? My response has been to put more ointment in each time, but then I realized maybe its too much and its over extracting fluid from my eyes and its more than my eye has to give? Even with both applications during the night, I'm still waking up with pretty significantly dry eyes. Thanks.

Thanks for the message Robyn. Could very well be drying out, especially if you sleep with a ceiling fan on, or if the heat is cranked. Have you tried a sleeping mask or taping your lids shut after putting the med in? That could help, especially if you have nocturnal lagophthamos (lids open at night). Give one of those a try. Try taping one lid shut, so you can still see if you need to get up in the middle of the night with the other eye, and compare how the eyes feel in the morning. I think it's obvious that we don't want to stop the Muro.

Good idea on taping one eye shut to see if that helps. I will try that tonight. Unfortunately, I woke up this morning with a severe erosion in my problem eye. I had gone about 30 days since the last erosion, but this was a bad one. I was so let down too because I had just bought a $90 humidifier for my bedroom, I wore my dry eye goggles and yet the erosion was really bad. I was well hydrated, and it was for nothing. The mistake was I tried just using another ointment and that for sure didn't work. I just started Xiidra so hopefully that will help but I was just afraid I was using too much Muro and it was dehydrating my eye. Thanks
