  • Dry eyes and stinking colds

Ok, it might seem that the streaming eyes you get with a cold would improve things, but I haven't found it that way at all.

Thanks to the cold I am sleeping too long and deeply, which means I keep waking up with corneal erosions and the eyedrops don't stay in because my eyes are watering too much. Something that would take 40mins to deal with is now taking the rest of the night. Vicks Inhalers work, but they are extremely painful thanks to the eye issue (in other words, I did it once and I'm not trying that again). Does anyone have any hints or tips for managing a cold and dry eye/corneal erosions? The only bright spot is that my eyes aren't opening on waking because they are gunked shut, or it would be even worse.

When this happens I suggest a gel. They don't work for me in any way other than making sure my eye doesn't rip. I'd use it while you have the cold and put up with the irritation it will bring for a couple of days, just to avoid the erosions. I recommend vitApos, or chloramphenicol ointment

Thanks for the suggestion, and the gel might help others or people with dry eye.

Luckily I am finally over the cold. Unfortunately I can't use the gel. As I learned a few months ago, with MDF dystrophy it can actually make things worse by forming a seal that encourages the eyelid to stick to the eye, and it was aggravating everything. It is why I am only on Hylotears.
