  • Veiny eyes that get worse in buildings

Hi, I'm an 18 year old male. About 3 months ago, I contracted a virus which left me with red eyes and yellow mucus discharge. Slowly, they got better. However, the red veins have persistently stayed. They get worse in builings or rooms with hot air, and they immediately are relieved when I go outside. The veins get redder and calm down throughout the day. I bought a humidifier and TheraTears (thinking its dry eye) and it has helped a little. Has anyone had something similar to this?
    To summarize:
    1. Red veiny eyes
    2. Gets worse in buildings, possibly dur to dry air
    3. Had mucus, but not anymore

Yes. Your eyes dry up in building due to their heating system or their AC. Sounds like evaporative dry eye to me.

If your eyes are drying up inside, it sounds like dry eye. You have already tried the obvious with a humidifier and tears, but this isn't helping, can you try moisture chamber glasses? They might protect your eyes from the aircon.

Have you spoken to a doctor or optician about this? It is possible the virus might have affected the glands in your eyelids, but if so it might be treatable.

Can ocular rosacea cause this, or is it more "permanent". My eyes get better and worse throughout the day. Is dry eye supposed to be unpredictable?

Dry eye can be unpredictable if it is aggravated by environmental factors. Air-conditioning levels changing, humidity of lack of it, whether you are running an air purifier or humidifer by your desk, these can all affect it.
