I am writing this for my mother, who can't use a computer anymore. She has an assortment of eye problems including well-controlled glaucoma. But her big problem right now is severe dry eye, so severe that it really affects her vision. She is currently using autologous serum drops, which are helpful but not sufficient. When compounded testosterone eye drops were available (from Leiters) they provided excellent relief AND her vision was actually improving (as measured by her ophthalmologist too).
Once Leiters stopped producing in early 2016, we tried to obtain testosterone eye drops from another compounder, and struggled to get them to use a similar sterile water based formula...and then it turned out that increased regulation/ regulatory pressure meant that they could only sell in contiguous states, so that wasn't an option either. Infuriating!!!
(As an aside, the oil-based formulas most compounders routinely use can be very irritating. This was my mother's experience, and her ophthalmologist said that was common in his patients.)
At this point the testosterone cream might be the only option, unless we can find a viable compounder who can actually ship to the state where she lives.
So I am wondering if any of the forum participants used testosterone, either in eye drop or cream form...and what your experience has been? If you were using the eye drop, have you found a compounder who uses a sterile water based formula? (as opposed to the oil-based formulas that most compounders use).
Thanks in advance!
