  • Has anyone ever heard of a inflammatory disorder affecting only one eye/tear gland?

I have horrible pain in my left lacrimal gland that started very suddenly, the other eye nothing happened and both eyes were similarly dry before that but now the left eye is the worst one.

Could it have been some sort of inflammatory disorder affecting only my left eye? Doctors don't think it's an infection.

Not sure for your case but at least for me my left eye is much worse than my right one. It gets a lot redder more easily and also is constantly more inflamed. My doctors all tell me i have eye allergies and, while I do think that's true, it is still weird that my left eye is affected much more than my right one. Of course this mostly started after I had an eye infection that started in my left eye and later spread to my right eye. But I was on eye steroids and antibiotics by then so it probably did less damage to my right eye. Did your doctor do any tests to see how healthy your eyes are ? All of the ones I went to say I have generally healthy eyes, although they certainly don't feel it most days.

Yes, my eyes look fine mostly, I know what you mean about not feeling it. Is your left eye more dry since the infection? Although my doctors don't think so I suspect that I had an infection which caused the pain, my eye turned red all over, not extremely red but significantly.. eye ached like crazy(in lacrimal gland area) and there was even increased watery string discharge, but not much, definitely not any pus like discharge.

I think it's a viral infection, I've had similar things happen before, although without as much extra dryness and the pain, and mostly on eye surface not in the gland.

One day I'm fine pretty much next day bam, it happened pretty suddenly if I remember right, just seems like an infection to me but since doctors dont see pus flowing out and a lacrimal gland massively increased in size they don't think so.

How did your infection happen, was it viral or bacterial? Do you think what I have sounds like an infection?
