  • Am I crazy or does what happened to me seem like an infection?

My doctors don't seem to think so, but I don't trust them as much anymore.

What happened was last summer my left eye suddenly became red all over, not extremely red but significantly, this has happened before and I believe it was because I was sloppy with eye drop storage times, when it happened before the eye just became red and some increased dryness I believe, eventually got better. This time however my eye became much more dry, and worst of all an extreme aching pain that put me out of action for a month, after that the pain lessened some but it's still bad to this day.

There was also some sort of stringy watery discharge, not much at all though.

I did not go to the doctors for a month when the worst pain had disappeared, maybe that's why they did not think it was an infection, because the worst had passed already, I went because this horrible aching pain did not go away.

After researching this it seems to me that a viral infection would fit pretty well, my doctors reasoning for why it's not an infection don't make sense to me, she mentions there is no pus like in a bacterial infection for example, well sure but that does not mean it's not a viral infection as they are often without such discharge.

She also mentions that my eye looks fine and she can't see anything there, well yes, I believe the infection is in the lacrimal gland not the eye surface, it probably was on the eye surface too in the beginning but now only in the gland.

So what should I do, should I trust my intuition or trust my doctor? I've been in extreme pain for a year and doctor has not offered any treatment options..

Yes I believe that one the root cause of dry eye is an infection in the eyes/eyelids.

Did your dry eye come on over night? That's what happened to me. I had mild dry eye for a few years (I couldn't wear contact lenses from the age of 16-18), but I had no symptoms without the contact lenses in. Then one morning I woke up with severe dry eye at the age of 19, it happened literally overnight.

I had been trying ortho-k lenses and also started some medication. I woke up with severe dry eye, burning and pain.

I have a theory about why dry eye can go from ''normal'' or mildly dry one day to severe the next day.

I have developed this theory from my own experience healing my own dry eye and also from the extensive research that I have conducted into the underlying causes of chronic disease.

I believe the reason why this happens is because a low grade infection gets in to the eyes/eyelids. This could be yeast, bacteria, parasites, or a virus. The infection causes inflammation, damage to tissue and this results in dry eye.

The reason why dry eye becomes chronic is because the immune system is unable to fight off the infection due to poor circulation within the eyes. The body is unable to over come the infection because there is a lack of energy and the self healing mechanisms are blocked due to heavy metal toxicity and nutritional/mineral deficiencies.

Infection is the reason why people benefit from coconut oil and caster oil applied to the eyes. Both of the these are powerful antimicrobials (anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic).

Some people say they got dry eye after using a steroid eye drop or an antibiotic or a lot of stress. All weaken the immune system in the eyes allowing infections to take hold. The immune system in the eyes is found in the mucosal lining of the eyes, and this is our first defence against pathogenic bacteria. If this defence is weakened, bacteria or other microbes can enter the body via the eyes and get into the tissue.

Infections, particularly, systemic candida and parasites can infect tissue anywhere in the body.

Infections usually infect weak and damaged tissue, which has been damaged by toxins such as metals. So if you already had mild dry eye and then you got severe dry eye over night- you had weakened tissue in the eyes already, which is a breading ground for infections.

So yes go with your intuition because I think you are right!

Wow, interesting, thanks for your reply. It did feel like it came overnight (when all this started), although I did have to stop with contacts a while before that. One day though I went to sleep and my eyes were bone dry, something I had not noticed the day before.

Do you think I should try to get antiviral eye drops? I suspect a viral infection. How else can I fight infection?

Will have to think about all this, thanks.
