  • New ways to test for dry eyes

    Beyond the usual Schirmers, TBUT, staining, and dry eye questionnaires...

    there are newer tests such as

    * TearLab Osmolarity Test
    * InflammaDry Detector from Rapid Pathogen Screening
    * Tear Stability Analysis System, or TSAS, from Tomey
    * Keratograph 5M from Oculus (meibography)
    * LipiView by TearScience (lipid layer interferometry)
    * TearScan MicroAssay System from Advanced Tear Diagnostics
    * Optovue OCT, Zeiss makes the Cirrus OCT (OCT = optical coherence tomography)
    * harvesting cells from the surface of the eye and sending them to a laboratory for testing (e.g., EyePrim is a sampling device)

    I've had all the "usual" tests (Schirmers, TBUT, staining, OSDI questionnaire etc). I've also done LipiView five times (see http://www.dryeyezone.com/talk/showt...4389#post74389).

    I would love to have some of the other tests to see if my MGs are complete goners.

    Besides TearLab's Osmolarity test and TearScience's LipiView which are now quite known and popular, has anyone had/done any of the others? Was it useful for treatment?

    The meibography looks promising. Finally a chance to see what's left of our meibomian glands...
    I think this is going to be a major research tool in the next few years to find out what can possibly influence or even reverse MG shortening/loss/atrophy.
