  • I think I'm going crazy - help needed

I think I need a bit of psychological support right now. Everyday I wake up with burning eyes and usually I go to sleep with burning eyes. I have a feeling I can't take this anymore. I don't have a single minute at home when I can relax. Whenever I'm not distracted by other people my mind is racing like crazy. "Will this ever get better? How can I endure all this? Will it even get worse? What else can I do to find help?...."
I feel like everything I do, just doesn't help at all. Warm compresses twice a day, 3 times a day washing the area around my eyes with babyshampoo, eyedrops every hour, blink exercises. My daily routine is beginning to eat up my day. I'm typing this while having breaks in between my workout sets. I just can't focus anymore.
Whenever I can gather up a bit of positivity it only takes a few hours until the burn is back and I'm back on the ground.
    Please tell me something positive...

p.s.: english is not my first language, so please excuse any grammar mistakes.

Hi wissen. Sorry to hear all you have been through. I've been where you are, many of us in this forum have. It can get better.

I recall reading in one of your other posts that it was confirmed several of your meibomian glands are gone? I also had severe MGD, and lost several glands. Have you considered scleral lenses? I wear mines 12+ hours a day, and it helps a lot. These are nickel-sized dome-shaped lenses that vault over the cornea bathing them in saline, like having eye drops on the eyes all day long. The edges sit on the sclera/white part of the eye. Sclerals have been used increasingly to help manage dry eyes. Not everyone can tolerate them, but if you can, it could give some immediate relief.

Here's a good general description of sclerals in general for the Boston PROSE sclerals, however there are many brands and PROSE are not available in all countries:

Ask your eye doctor for a referral to see a scleral specialist, to get a consult. Usually they have you try on trial lenses for an hour or so, to see if you can tolerate the lenses and if it seems to help your eyes feel better. The expertise and experience the scleral specialist has in fitting sclerals is key in your chances of being able to wear them. A good specialist should be able to determine from the consult if you are a candidate to proceed.

You should still try to resolve your MGD, but if you can wear sclerals, it can help manage your symptoms. I resolved my MGD with probing to unblock the glands, including scar tissue, then made diet changes to change the oils from thick to flowing so the glands did not get blocked up again. The sclerals help with remaining dryness I have from the lost/atrophied glands I will never get back.

I wouldn't recommend using baby shampoo. I use Ocusoft Plus, iLast Hydraclean, Optase Tea Tree wipes. I tried Cliradex but it stung, works for others.

I got Navi-blef lid shampoo here. What do you think about this?

Should be better than baby shampoo since it's specifically designed for eyelids.

Did your doctor put you on Restasis at all?! I use a low dose steroid a few times a week and my doctor is okay with it (actually 2 doctors). It helps my quality of life and my pressures remain low. Have you tried doxycycline? Do you have a skin condition like rosacea?

Ciclosporine is usually only prescribed for severe keratitis in germany. I still got some, but only one package with 30 doses. Still holding back on it, since I don't know if my problems are bacteria related, I think Restasis would worsne it then?
Haven't tried Doxy. I'm going to a dermatologist today and ask her if a skin condition could be the reason for my eye condition. Correct me if I'm wrong, I couldn't start with Doxy now anyway because of summer. I need to be out in the sun at least 2-3 hours a day because of my doggy.
