  • Any hope?

Hi, I'm 27 and feeling very on edge after 3 months of MGD. I have glands but they are bit twisted and a few are shortened. My glands are open but the meibomian is buttery and of low/bad quality. TBUT 3.
Steroids made things worse and currently on fish oils and doxy, warm compress ect but no change.
Maybe this is dramatic, but I cant see this ever getting any better, and cant imagine living with it, so dont want to live any more. All I do is sit in the house in pain all day and I feel my whole life has been taken from me.

    Can this get better?

Hi. I have just recently started to suffer from dry eyes, so the advice and help I can give you probably won't be in depth as others can give. All I can say is please stay strong. Surroud yourself with family and friends. Also this forum provides great support and information on dry eyes disease.

I've had it for 20 years and I don't plan to stop looking for relief. I am still self conscious and have some pain but have managed to have a great life. Hang in there. Don't give up.

20 years?! Have you managed to bring the symptoms under control. I'm off work, drops every 30mins, moisture chamber glasses, eyes shut for hours of the day. I cant live like this, and feel so anxious. I was in hospital for feeling suicidal last week and can't go back there because of all the air conditioning. I think this is going to kill me.

          Hi Lena
Believe me, your condition is not bad at all - you have glands and are open - that count the most.
Just find a real expert (makes a big difference) and in the meantime keep learning.
You will get it under control like many others - I am 110% sure of it.
If you have MGD, compress is the key but not easy to master.

Hey Lena, I'm right there with you. i felt like you at one point. I'm 28, have had MGD for about 1.5 years now, thought my life was going to shit and felt helpless. however, things do get better. things will get better. just be patient, keep searching for treatment and don't give up. what has helped me most are moisture chamber glasses, xiidra, oil based drops such as retain mgd or refresh mega 3, and triglyceride form fish oils. xiidra definitely helped alot to bring the burning down. there's still many treatments to try like probing, ipl, prp/autologous drops and many other future treatments coming.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Are you able to have a normal life-ish then? I was meant to start on a graduate scheme but have had to defer it for a year and moved back to my parents. I cant believe this has happened really, in complete shock and anxiety mode. By 7 I can barely keep my eyes open and all I can think of is all the things I'll never do again if they don't get better.
