  • Highest dose for neurontin?

Hi - I would like to know, if neurontin has worked for your pain, what's the highest dose that you needed? I'm on 1200 mg, and tolerate it pretty well, so I wonder if I can go higher. I presently have a bandage contact lens in my eye, so I can't tell yet whether it's going to help the pain, once I take the lens out.

Also, have you noticed that it takes a while, before it really kicks in? That's what someone told me, so I wonder if that's true for other people. Thanks. - Mark

    Hello mrl,

I have been taking gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) since June and I was fitted for PROSE lenses in August. I had to start at 100 mg 2x per day and have mostly been at 300mg 2 or 3 x per day since July. In December my PCP and I decided to go up to 600mg morning and night and 300mg midday which does make a big difference in pain relief. It does make me more sluggish and gives me a great night's sleep but I weigh in at about 107 lbs so it might hit me harder. My sense is that the maximum daily dose of gabapentin is much higher than what we are taking. I get enormous but not complete pain relief from my PROSE lenses. I use serum tears twice a day which are very soothing. I have corneal neuropathy.

Good luck and let me know if you learn any great pain management tips!

Currently, I take 600mg 3X/day. I was taking 1200mg 3X/day and I did that for 7 years. Wasn't sure it was working so I started cutting back. I quickly learned that I've got to stick to what I take now but going higher makes no difference in pain relief for me.
