Hi Logan
I started to feel the effects around 6 weeks, GP said 2 weeks but it was longer than that. Nothing else changed just that I slowly felt the dark cloud lifting. Everything was good in my life at the time so there was no outside cause, just a predisposition to a chemical imbalance I believe.
I believe antidepressant are handed out way too frequently, in the UK anyway. It's human nature to feel a bit down sometimes but depression is a different ball game. A colleague was given antidepressants after he was feeling down about breaking with his girlfriend after 6 months together, he's still on them a year later. I don't think they were the right way to go for him.

You are quite lucky that you were on Prozac for such a short time. Most people i knew at university were given anti depressants at one time or another but for the overwhelming majority, it did not work for them and made them feel worse. One person I was close to on Zoloft was fine before he started treatment, then 3 months later attempted suicide twice. This type of thing never happens with Taurine or Melatonin.
SSRI anti depressants also stay in your system for years afterward, so people arent sure of the long term effects. Most long term studies show SSRI antidepressants to be ineffective in treating depression, OCD and autism although there might be a short term placebo effect for 3% who take it.
Anyhow it's good that you had a positive effect with Prozac. I noticed for multiple people who attempt to publish their negative experiences with anti depressants on public sites like WEB MD sites or other medical sites with forums are immediately deleted. Strange, no?

Thanks,

Studies show long term effects of taurine to increase longevity, brain functioning, anti aging, and eye health. Also taurine reverses retinopathy, lowers blood pressure, and a natural mood elevator with no toxic effects since excess is excreted in the kidneys to the urine.
However people who are deficient in taurine have symptoms of anxiety, depression, infertility, insulin resistance, autism, eye diseases, and obesity.

Also that it gives you a high when you exercise - any idea why that is?Paediatric ocular rosacea ~ primum non nocere

Logan, you shared that you were diagnosed taurine deficient due to vegetarian diet. What symptoms did you have?

I get a high when taking L-Arginine before aerobic exercise. I had a slightly elevated blood pressure and gluten intolerance before the Taurine supplementation...not to mention The Red Eyes! but I think that was also part of the Vitamin B2 deficiency.

Have you also looked into Vitamin B complex? Not sure if you take that already, but there were some cool Vitamin B2 drops available here:

Wow. It's almost like it's too good to be true. I wonder why all doctors aren't prescribing it? Then there would be no obesity, diabetes, mental health problems or autism (to name a few).

Prozac takes 2-3 months before it starts to work. If you had only taken it for 3 months then you had stopped taking it just as it was starting to take effect. Could it be that something else had helped you regain your perspective during this time?
I agree with the lyrica
I'm not medical but isn't it more likely to be B12 deficient and anaemia if you're vegetarian, especially if you've been taking antacid tablets for stomach ache or digestion? Get your nutritional status checked out, that's what I think, so you know where you are with these supplements.
My neighbour was a trained homeopath and was keen to cure my child but he is in prison now for paedophilia. Apparently there is no regulation in UK at all.

I say 'trust no one'. The internet is deceptive - eg in real life I am not at all like the Little Mermaid in the movie, more like Ursula.
Lol, Spmcc - we're all cured
What I really want to know is 'where are the best international medical research centres on nutrition?' Interesting.Last edited by littlemermaid; 22-Jan-2014, 08:15.Paediatric ocular rosacea ~ primum non nocere

thank you all for your input. i am so grateful for your advice.
To answer your questions... the lyrica is being reduced in favour of citalopram and although i like the sound of taurine, i know im going to be pressured into doing what the professional tells me to do. As for picking a different opthal...ive had 4 and each one makes me wait 3 months. its bleak.
Thanks little m, i didnt know i could get plugs on the high st. Is this still nhs do u know?
Lizlou... in hindsight i noticed the squinting first with light and then my husband bought me some drops and we put the two together.
I had another terrible night where my eyes feel uncomfortable and in the dark hours i worry that there is something really nasty going on.
Do my eyes feel like they are adjusting all the time because the tight muscles alter my prescription does anyone know and is my face, temples, neck and jaw hurting from eye strain? im trying to think realistically rather than catastrophising (cbt techniques!).
on a positive note... despite feeling truly awful..i still walked my dog and managed an hour ir two helping my friends at work.

Littlemermaid, my new neighbour is a 'ThetaHealing Spiritual Teacher', she claims signing up to her 3 day course would be all I need to overcome my "eye issues". Apparently she cured her fractured ankle with the power of self belief and her GP couldn't believe it
I would like to think that the people with some kind of agenda to push become obvious to us quite quickly but then we can be so desperate for hep sometimes that we will try almost anything.
I don't fall for things that easily but having said that I'm am a little disappointed that you are not in fact the diminutive sea creature your name would suggest.
