  • Painful micro eyelashes (feel like something is in your eye constantly)

I saw a few threads on eyelashes and they reminded me of and issue I’ve dealt with before which is micro eyelashes. I haven’t had this problem for a while but every now and then I used to get this feeling like something was scraping against my eye every time I would blink. It felt like something was in my eye all the time. I would look and nothing would be in there. The scratching pain would be terrible sometimes and it was constant unless I closed my eyes. Then one day I was looking really close in my eye and I saw a very tiny eyelash. It was so thin it was almost transparent and around 1/16th of an inch long. The eyelash was pointing inward towards my eye and once I plucked it with some tweezers the pain and scratching was gone! After that every time it would happen I knew what it was and could take care of it.

Anyways apparently it’s called Trichiasis but for me it was usually just one tiny little eyelash, microscopic. Also I never had this happen to me until after my PRK surgery then I had a few months where it seemed to happen pretty regularly. Now it’s been at least a few years since I'’ve had any problems with them.

Here's a link with a little more info on Trichiasis.

    Hi,

Trichiasis was the first symptom I've had. I had to plucked it with a tweezer every month for few years then it grew back normally on the right direction.
Doctor said he didn't know why and it is like that.and he could remove the eyelashe with laser.
In the end after finding another doctor, efficient , he diagnosed a blepharitis with MGD. A gland was atrophied and it was the cause.
So be careful and ask a doctor to check your glands. Find the root cause.

        Hi PRK

Since I've been diagnosed recently with Demodex, I suspect it is the root cause of trichiasis and probably of MGD too, as mites live into the lashs and the glands
If you have itching symptoms, maybe you could have an analysis or better find a Dr in order to check demodex.

          Demodex
Interestingly, recently I heard that ''demodex is 100% in some practices'', from an American eye dr in her educational video - too brief statement - she means demodex is very common. But most doctors still do not check this.
