  • Foreign Sensation Under My Eyelid For One Year

Hi. I've currently been dealing with a chronic ocular problem for a year now. I've seen 5 different doctors, and have been diagnosed with a variety of causes for eye pain. Here's a timeline of the diagnosis and medicine I have used over the course of a year:

    1. Giant Papillary Conjuntivitis- Given Lotemax and stopped wearing contacts for a year.

    2. Blephritis- Given Alrex.

    3. GPC again- Given Prednisone

    4. Dry Eye- Given Pataday, TherTear artificial tears

    5. Dry Eye and GPC- Given Bepreve

    6. Allergic pernellial conjuntivitis- Allergy drops and Zaditor

Currently, I only use preservative free tears and clean my eyelids everyday. I've been told it could be due to the toxicity of BAK in all the medication, but I haven't used medication in two months and the problem feels even worse. This issue is obviously not contact-based, since I haven't worn my contacts in over a year, not allergies since I have been on my allergy drops for a few months and there has been no improvement, not blephritis, not dry eye.....

I am truly stuck on what to do next. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

I have started having a similar experience, it constantly feels like there is either something in my eye (on a good day) or a constant burning with a foreign body sensation (bad day), I also have one centralized spot on my lower left corner of my outer eye. It has been around 3 months now for me. Mine all spurred from a bad day in the sun when I burned my eyes.

I have gone from the initial insult, to dry eyes, to allergic reaction/allergies, back to dry eye with allergies.

I had a very informative trip to an Optometrist who told me that my symptoms were wildly out of proportion with how dry my eyes are. I asked her if that could possibly be neurological pain and she said that she starts to worry when it is like this, but since there were inflammatory markers in my tear she would want to rule out that. She said we would cross that bridge when we get to it if it was.

Im hoping that you and I find some resolution to this. It has been a long and painful 3 months, I couldn't imagine doing a year. Do stay strong!

        Hi
normally allergy drops make eyes dry. You need to find out the causes. Try to find a doctor who can at least identify them.

Lid hygiene: NOT all brands are the same. If the one you use not is not helping, good to change.
Most doctors in USA recommend pure HOCL, like Avenova, which I can not get but managed to find the alternative - and it works super.

I do take Fish Oil pills once a day. I did have blood work and a urine test done, everything checked out normal.

Wow, it's crazy we have about the exact same symptoms/timeline of ocular pain. Please let me know if you find a solution to the problem, and I'll do the same!

I'll let you know for sure, I am going to see my regular Opthalmologist tomorrow and he may be able to shed some more light on the situation.

                Hi,
My symptoms have been meanly a Foreign body Sensation for a few years.
At the beginning it lasted for 1 month then next year it lasted for 2 months then again next year for 3 months.
I visited many doctors, and in the end the diagnosis was blepharitis with MGD. The pain came from a gland that was clogged.
After doing the right treatment I felt well, almost normal.
But one year later, now I have again a Foreign body Sensation for 7 months (Lipiflow done 2 months ago) and I don't understand why because my glands work properly since the treatment.
I don't feel the pain when I lift the upper eyelid, that's why I suppose the cause comes from the eyelid. Is it the same for you ?

What blood test are you talking about ?

hey ! Having similar exp. My foreign body sensation/burning started in the left eye after wearing contacts a long day this summer. So i had the regular burning discomfort since february, which 2 eyedoctors contributed only to allergy. Now I know I def had post blepharititis and MGD at the same time. A new doctor in September confirmed this. My right eye is like 95 % normal , but the left is freaking killing me.. any updates DRYGUY or AmandarHIM?

I've been suffering for yesrs. Only in the left eye though. Doctor after doctor they all said I have dry eye and MGD and there isn't much they can do. I just saw a cornea specialist and was diagnosed with occular neuropathic pain and that is what's causing it.

                        - From my experience the foreign sensation came from a lack of oil because of MGD. After doing hot compress it left after a few weeks.
                        - But, in one case, I had a foreign body sensation for 9 months, and hot compress didn't solve the issue. After trying anti allergic drops for 3 weeks, the foreign sensation is gone.
But I'm not sure of the root cause (allergy or MGD) because I had Lipiflow 3,5 months before, and doxycycline for 4 months, so I don't think it is thanks to Lipiflow because I should have felt relief after 2 months.
                        - FYI, I confirm allergy drops made my eyes dry but my priority was the foreign sensation.

MBperso yah okay ! good to hear , gonna try allergy drops again. Also gonna get IPL done soon. The thing is that its not a constant feeling. Sometimes its a small stone , sometimes the feeling is more of a big stone, and its rarely the same place I feel it. Some rare times its not even there. Also the burning comes and goes. I got my tear production tested and that was fine. I really wanna get a lipiview done and get an overview of my eyelid glands and their status..! Started taking NAC and other supplements together with OMEGA 3 recently, also started on doxyclin for 6 weeks. Will have to see where i go from there..

mbperso - so my new eye specialist doing the IPL wanted to see me atleast twice to get a better overview over my eyes(and before starting IPL). I am getting the first treatment with IPL today - Ofc he is super busy and i had to wait a whole month unfortunately . So yeah I think its a little better and it def didt get worse using allergy drops and taking supplements. Still pretty hard to open my left eye in the morning and the foreign body feeling+ burning comes and goes. ( i will def return with an update and thank you for taking an interest mbperso!)
