  • Symptoms getting worse EVERY DAY - What is the "root cause"?

    Hello Everyone,

I got LASIK two years ago. Things were fine for the first year.

In the last 8 months, everything started to get worse every day. I've tried so many things. Nothing is working. I don't know what the "root cause" of my issues are.

I am starting to lose hope. Hoping you can help find out what the "root cause" may be.

Really, truly appreciate any help you may be able to provide. Thank you, everyone!

    Symptoms:
    - redness
    - pain
    - soreness
    - scratchy
    - halos
    - starbursts
    - streaks and streams underneath lights or things that reflect light at night or under dim conditions are getting bigger and longer everyday (these disappear and re-appear within a second with every blink)
    - floaters

    What doctors/tests said:
    - I have dry eyes
    - Schirmer's test: <1
    - TBUT: <5
    - Oil glands are working fine
    - I have high order aberrations (coma) but visual symptoms are "100%" due to tear film issues

    What I tried/am doing:
    - Lipiflow
    - warm compress x 2 (daily)
    - Restasis x 2-4 (daily)
    - All sorts of OTC preservative-free drops x 2-10 (daily)
    - Ocunox nighttime ointment (daily)
    - Castor oil
    - Desktop humidifier
    - Home humidifiers
    - Nighttime masks
    - Airtight sunglasses

    how about
do you have inflammation, if so, bacteria, demodex? what cleanser you are using, what treatment plans dr recommended?

    do you take omega 3?

images for glands, % gland alive? partical blinker, Vit. D, A, healthy diet, allergies, medications?

If current dr can not identify problems with solutions, find another one - since you have tried so many things already.

        Hi MGD1701,

I do have inflammation. Using lid wipes, Restasis, Serum drops, Omega 3.

I am a partial blinker. I have 70% of my glands working.

Hi farmgirl - I haven't tried plugs yet. My doctor doesn't believe in them, as he believes they will fill up my eyes will bad quality tears.

            inflammation: bacterial, demodex?

Not all lid wipes and omega 3 are the same/effective - if these are recommended by dr then should be ok.

            Blinking exercise does help.

You need to find out the causes. meanwhile, keep learning as dry eye is too new!

Plug: if one has inflammation, normally doctors do not want to put plugs.
