Sunglasses aren't enough to protect eyes during a partial solar eclipse. If your vision has changed since the moon passed over the sun Aug. 21, call a doctor to test to see if there is retina damage.

After Monday's solar eclipse, many watchers were worried that viewing the event had hurt their eyes or caused other symptoms.

I occasionally feel the gritty sensation or that something is in my eye. I've been using Omega 3 supplements 3x times a day and pure, cold-pressed, hexane free castor oil as eye drops every night. My eyelids haven't produced any oils since the day after the eclipse. It is hard for me to sleep comfortably but my symptoms are not as severe and have been alleviated by my eye care regimen.

If you go to Reddit and search "I looked at the eclipse" in the Posts section, you'll find some posts that reference people's eyes feeling strange or dry. Of the 3 ppl I asked: one said they had dry eyes prior, another woke up the next morning with dry eyes but said eye drop does the trick for them, and the other said that they also woke up the next morning with dry eyes/MGD and blurry vision in the left eye which still persists today.

I really hope we can find a remedy for MGD. It's a frustrating condition.

Neither of those articles support your claim of chronic dry eye from eclipse. The first doesn't mention dry eye at all, and the second merely said that they had temporary dry eye from keeping their eyes open too long. Like their eyes were dry, not they have dry eye. I wouldnt worry about the eclipse anymore. That's in the past and just a recipe for anxiety.

I'm glad you are finding relief with your treatments. I agree this condition is terrible!not Hopefullyor me soon too.

First paragraph from the first article:

"The glow of the solar eclipse dimmed Monday for some people who didn't properly protect their eyes. Several sun gazers wandered into the mobile medical van at the OMSI Solar Eclipse Viewing Party in Salem to complain about headaches, dry eyes and blurry vision."

            Second article:

"Giovinazzo told Live Science that he has already seen several patients who said their eyes felt funny after watching Monday's eclipse, and they all had dry eyes."

These articles were released a couple days after eclipse so who knows if those patients have gotten progressively worse.

It's been hard to not obsess over what caused my dry eyes but I have to to shift my focus solely on relief since I cannot undo the past.

Here's the first part of the quote from the second article.

"Fortunately, experts say that if your eyes felt a little strange after the eclipse, it's not necessarily a reason to worry. It could be that you have dry eyes from keeping your eyes open too long, according to Dr. Vincent Jerome Giovinazzo, director of ophthalmology at Staten Island University Hospital in New York City." Literally speaking about how the severity of the patients he saw with dry eyes was not serious. It was temporary from keeping eyes open too long or not blinking. That article is hardly any evidence for chronic dry eye. Trust me, I am a chronic worrier and even for me neither of those articles say anything worth worrying about.

Yes, I had trouble sleeping at night because of dry eye. It has gotten better thankfully and most nights I can sleep the full night without getting up to put drops in. At the worst times I had to get up every 3 hours to put drops in. The last 2 weeks I haven't woken up but still very dry. Have you tried wearing goggles at night? Ointments don't work for me and actually make things worse.
