  • PRP Injections into Meibomian Glands

    Hi guys,

By now you've all probably seen Dr. Cremer's blog about PRP injections into meibomian glands.

    http://eyedoc2020.blogspot.com/2017/...asma-into.html

I tried this about a week ago in my lower left eyelid. I wanted to open up a topic for anyone else who's had it done and to share my results when I go back for a follow up in a couple of weeks.

I'm scheduled with Dr. Cremers to have MG probing and PRP injections on March 27, 2018. I will be following your posts and posting my results after I have the procedure.

I should add that I don’t have extensive gland loss. I do have some gland loss but my lipiview was generally okay. My main issue is they’re not producing oil.

Very interested to see if this helps. My problem is also low oil production rather than extensive gland loss. Do you know what your tbut is?

Can anyone tell me if a person is allowed to continue using night ointment after having MG probing? It is on my list to ask Dr. Cremers when I see her for my upcoming probing, but I would like to know sooner than later. I use a lot of night time ointment because my eyes are so dry. I wake up from pain every other hour and need to apply more ointment. My meibomian glands have practically disappeared, so if this probing works or the PRP injections, it will be a miracle. Thanks.

Lena11 My TBUT is reallly low 2 in my left and 8 in my right.

LesYou I used ointment after probing. Also I'm sorry your glands are gone. I know how frustrating this disease is. I wouldn't get your hopes up too much about this procedure. I've tried a ton of different things since my issues started and I used to get really excited that the next thing would be the 'miracle' I was looking for, but it never was. I do hope this helps a little but the doctor said they've done it on about 20 patients so far and a handful of them improve. She just got certified to perform procedures with stem cells, which may work better.

I also have MGD which was caused by looking at a solar eclipse with my naked eyes. I haven't been able to stimulate my meibomian glands to produce oil. My dryness has been manageable with eye drops and omega 3 pills. However, the lack of oil layer makes it difficult to have a deep sleep. I also cannot sleep more than 5 hours. Do you also have issues with sleep?

No I don’t have issues sleeping. In fact it’s almost all I do anymore. I’m pretty depressed. I sleep 10-14 hours a day.

                    Hi shakenbake,
                    Thanks for sharing
I'm very interested to know the evolution.
Do you know how many glands lost/atrophied/shortened or % of area?
Did Dr. Cremer say how long you will be starting to get improvement ?

I have a few lost glands. Maybe 2 in each eye. They’re not producing oil though. And a couple of my top ones are crooked (probably from allergies. I’ve just last year started to get shots.

Im seeing her Tuesday. Honestly I haven’t seen any improvement. I felt better the first few days after but that might’ve been the probing. I’ll do stem cell injections next.

I've seen three people and two of them said that crooked glands didn't matter though the first one seemed to think it wasn't good. Mine are so crooked...
Did your doc think this affected oil production?

                          Hi lena,
I remember a medical report which said that there is no impact with crooked glands, they produce same oil
Try to find it here https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/

I'll try and get my lipifview pictures so that there's a before and after. Will know in a couple of days.

So 3 week out update and no real improvement. Maybe something very small but nothing crazy. I'll do the injections into the rest of my lids anyway just to see if it helps. She said it's too early to tell but I think It just didn't work for me
