Is there any research that shows that dry eye is more prevalent in certain ethnic groups? For instance, I stumbled upon an old study that showed a prevalence among Asian groups, in that Asians were found to have a more unstable tear film. However, in those I know personally that actually have dry eye, they are first, mostly Caucasian, and second, mostly female.
Do you suppose there is a link, such as Vitamin D deficiency (i.e., low Vitamin D diet, or living in a Northern climate, or low melanin, or certain environmental exposures) that links to dry eye?
I'm not posting this to be politically incorrect or offend (really, that's the last thing I would want to do on this forum), I'm simply wondering if there is any study to back up a purely anecdotal observation.
