• I need some help please!

Hi everyone!

I posted before to introduce myself, i am a European girl who has visited a lot of eyedoctors and had little to no answers so far.
Some just said ' we have tried everything .. there is nothing we can do. Some doctors told me my meibomian glands are not working well and my tear evaporates quikly. They can't do anything for me.
My guess is that it is rosacea, i have red eyelid margins and i begin to see red veins on my face too

My eyes burn a lot and lately so does my skin. I can stay on the computer for a long time but my skin burns, this happens tremendously when i come near fluorescent lights. My eyes are bloodshot all the time.
Does anyone know if the computer triggers the rosacea????

Monday i will go to a doctor in Germany, but i need to make sure that this time i will ask the right questions...
I read a lot on this site and sometimes i get scared . I am afraid for the worst case scenario with my MG's
Can someone help me to come up with very important and good questions?? Some people here do know a lot more than i do.

tried
eyedrops
steroids
doxy
one eye plugged ( for trying)
hot compresses
vitamins ans fish oil
castor oil
gluten free diet( lost weight and i am not happy with that)

In Europe we don't have very good care, In America there are many treatments.
But if enyone knows a good dry eye center in Europe or Belgium you can always send me a message

I am suffering for a long time now. I have almost no one to talk to, nobody understands what i am going trough.
I am not looking for a cure, but relief and whiter eyes would be a blessing

I can't send Rebecca a private message but i want her to know that i am very gratefull for what she has done with this site. She is an Angel!

I know a good saying from Wayne Dyer, and i read it to stay hopefull, just wanted to share

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change

Hi!

Any ophtalmologist will likely do a Schirmer and TBUT.
If you're not certain, try to verify that is the case.
It's good to know your basic test results.

Ask if he can express your meibomian glands. Is there anything coming out? Is it clear and fluid?
Is it yellow or white? Does it maybe look like tooth paste? How long does it take for something to come out?
How much pressure does he have to apply? Does it hurt?

If that doctor has a keratograph apparatus, he can do a meibography and some other tests.
A meibography is an image of your meibomian glands to see what remains of their anatomy.
This can be a very useful tool to diagnose wether you have MGD or not.
But in a lot of people, especially young people like me, the anatomy is perfectly fine, even with MGD.
So don't immediately start to fear for your MG's. They could be fine, even if they're not working correctly.

What kind of medication does he regularly use in treating MGD?
Has he heard of azithromycin, cyclosporin, diquafosol...?
Does he regularly prescribe doxycycline?
If he treats all dry eye in the same way, or if he only treats it with a course of steroids,
that's suspicious.

Ask him abut experimental therapies like probing, Lipiflow or IPL.
If he is aware that this exists and has helped some people,
that's always a good sign. Maybe he offers one of these or he can recommend it.

And perhaps the most important thing is to ask yourself: does he take you seriously?
Does he believe you when you talk about the pain and your quality of life?
Is it someone you would trust with further treatment of your eyes?

This is all I can think of for the moment. A lot of this stuff is quite obvious,
but two years back, way before my diagnosis and before I knew anything about dry eyes,
I don't think I would have asked any of what is listed above. Hope it helps.
I believe Rebecca has a good guide on what to ask on an appointment as well.
That's maybe worth reading too.

This is photosensitivity. Did it start after taking the Diane-35? I would Google that to look at side effects.

Sunlight sensitivity can be a side effect of doxycycline too, I think. But your skin is doing this in fluorescent and computer light.

Otherwise, do your arms or legs or patches of your face go red or swell in normal sunlight? These are things to discuss with the docs.

Thank u littlemermaid,
Where i live there is not much sunlight. But when i go on vacation in Italy the skin on my body is fine. The face gets a little red but not very severe. My eyes actually feel much better when i leave the classroom where there is much fluorescent light.( i go to school on saturdays)
I just feel a weird ache in my face and little veins are appearing on my face.

It could be that it started with the diane 35, but the doctor gave it to me because i had my period every week and developped severe acne. ( sorry guys!)

Sorry for my English, i am so tired i can't think straight.

It sounds like there are some light disorders that are triggered by fluorescent lights. Were you on exactly the same medications and suppliments when you were in the sun last and your body seemed fine?

Honestly if I were you I might go see a rhuematolgist, and allergist, and a dermatologist. It sounds like you might have some underlying condition that might be playing a big part in all your symptoms, and that you might need to get a handle on before the eye doctor can take a next step.

This wiki has a list (near the bottom) of conditions that can be aggravated or triggered by light. Some of them do cause dry eye. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_sensitivity
