  • Everything was great until this morning

So recently I've been expressing my eyes well with compress and lid massage. Taking alrex 2x a day, restasis 2x a day and serum tears about 4 times per day and lid scrub after hot compress 2x a day.

so I woke up today with my left eye sealed shut, I could love my eyeball freely inside the eye. But when I opened it...it felt like I may have scratched it. I can't tell if it's an abrasion or pink eye. It surprising only hurt a bit upon waking was super read and tearing a bit. An hour later, I still have blurred vision, slight agitation, no serious pain...not sure what to make of it. I have a dr appt today oddly enough so hopefully I'll get some answers and post back,

ikkow ive read corneal erosions hurt...maybe mine doesn't bevause I'm on all the anti inflammatory drugs. Maybe it's just an infection...but it's annoying for sure. Was doing so well...genuinely thought I was on this linear path upward in my progress.

Such is life, I'm trying not to freak out.

Well it looks like a superficial abrasion, nothing tone concerned about. Doesn't hurt at all surprisingly but my vision is extremely poor. So antibiotic drops in my left eye only for two weeks just to be certain I don't contract an infection... hopefully the eye heals up and I can see normally again. The ghosting is very bad.

He said if the erosions keep occuring i may need to scrape the eyeball and hope for better regrowth of the epithelium. I did like hearing that lol.

That's good news - it certainly sounded like an acute problem and not a part of your dry eye when you described it.

Well I had this left eye scraped when I initially had the injury. I believe that is what's causing the erosion...this is my first recurrent corneal erosion. When the cells healed from that first debridement, they healed clumpy as my dr said.

I wish i sh I never did the scraping I just had no clue what to do, I was depressed and desperate. Anyway, my hope is that this doesn't become a constant issue.

Is the erosion on your cornea or sclera? If on your cornea and the erosions become recurrent, another option instead of scraping might be scleral lenses.

I'm certain it was the cornea...simply because I had debridement done on this eye before. When I healed, I got a line of edema right in the center of my vision. Based on where I feel it and how it effected my vision I'd say cornea is accurate.

Im grateful, it was extremely mild. Vision is already coming back. I believe what caused it was sleeping under an air vent with my eyes open and the AC on.

Dowork123 I just saw your post here. The same thing happened to me 3 month ago and that was where all my ghosting started and never went away. Do you think I did not heal correctly from that abrasion? If I did not, should not doctor be able to see that on slit lamp or topographer?

Again, I know it's hard to believe, but there are issues present that machines and dyes cannot see...YET! Eventually we will have equipment sensitive enough to do that, however, we dont yet. So let me say this, I had my erosion at 4am...my dr opened at 8am and saw me first thing cause I was freaked out, my first erosion. He didn't see anything when he stained it. But he wasn't surprised. That's why you need a doctor with a lot of experience that is basically a detective. He said, you're sleeping with your eyes open and you probably have a vent above your head blowing air...I was like oh my god, you're right. And stupidly I still didn't use ointment or eye protection for another month.
