  • dry eye not improving

Okay so I've had dry eye for around 2 years now. It's flared up in the past month once I stopped wearing my contact lenses my eye lids have always been red but recently they are very bad . I've been put on doxycycline and have been on it for around 3 weeks the doctor said I had memboitis which is causing the poor tear film , he made it sound like it would go away easy however I am off work sick and do not seem to be finding any improvements my daily schedule looks something's like this -

    doxycycline
    2x omega 7
    1 x flaxseed
    1 x flaxseed

Steam eyes - this results in a white stringy substance on the eye which I am able to peel away.

    Steroid drops x 4

Thera tears as needed - they seem to dry up almost instantly as do many tear supplements

steam bath / mgd bag compress . - I tend to wake up in the middle of the night with extremely gritty eyes when I do this ( is that a good thing ?)

Artel nighttime gel just before I sleep and if I wake up in the night .
i noticed it seems to hurt slightly more when I wear my glasses too
Seems to be taking over my life been given an extension with my university dissertation because of it because I struggle to concentrate on computer and even read a book I use to love reading books all the time!
I stopped drinking alcohol so my eyes wouldn't dry out even more .
And I constantly feel tired - had blood done for thyroid it was normal
I decided against lipiflow however I am interested in mg probing does anyone have any advice on this ?

Sorry for the ramble but if anyone has any advice it would be great !

    Thanks Ben!

Hi Ben, Ive just started to look into (more seriously as all aspects of my life are being affected now) how I can alleviate my discomfort caused by dry eye. I am going to see an eye specialist on Tuesday as I would like to know which type of dry eye I have, I think I gave the one where not enough tears are produced which leads me to think does putting a warm compress on my eyes really make a difference as that opens up the glands. Do you know which type you have? I was also going to ask the specialist about restasis which can increase tear production, have you tried this? I have also ordered a pair of tranquileyes made by Eco, they cost me £90 for a 365 day kit. I have also ordered from America fortifeye vitamins recommend by Michael Lange (I have been watching a few videos on you tube by Michael Lange that have given me a few tips).

I use systane eye drops and also clean my eye lids 3-4 times a day with ocusoft. I have stopped drinking fizzy drinks, alcohol, tea and mainly drink water now (bottled spring water). Ive stopped eating a lot of the things I used to like chocolate, fried foods (no mcdonalds ), bread and now try to eat lots of green veg and fruit.

I have pinguecula too which get more inflamed when my eyes are dry. I am also looking in to getting a good humidifier for the living room. At the moment I am putting pots of water under radiators. I wear glasses when I'm cooking and am looking in to buying a pair of moisture chamber glasses so I don't look like an Idiot driving round in sun glasses when its cloudy!

This dry eye business is expensive! I'm 27 and feel like my dry eyes are ruining my life along with my pinguecula.

I would go and see another specialist, it will be the third specialist I have seen on Tuesday, i think if you find a doctor who really cares about your condition and relieving your discomfort then you are in a better position to fight dry eye.

I hope you find a remedy that helps you. I have only just begun searching for what works best for me.
