  • Pain around bottom eye socket with wind and fan - India

    Hello,
I get eye pain which lasts for weeks after exposure to wind and ceiling fan for as short as 30 mins . I have managed my dry eye with exercise and avoiding wind/fan exposure for many years now.
Off late, due to unavoidable circumstances ,I get exposed to the celing fan and blowing strong winds every now and then , and my eye pain has returned.
    • Does anyone have a recommendation on whether drops help more before or after exposure? I want to minimize use, since I am using drops which have Purite preservative.
    • Refresh optive (this has glycerine) had worked better than other drops for me. Are there any other eye drops available in India which have an oil content in them?
    • Is there anything one can do to give relief to the pain - which seems like because of strain on the eyes which have to now work with less moisture? - cardio exercises help me to some extent here.
    • One eye is more symptomatic than the other, for me. One of the doctors had said that it is MGD and blepharitis. Are there good doctors in Bangalore that you would recommend who can competently diagnose? I had a schrimmer test reading of 3 in one of my eyes and 7 in another , when I had last checked. No other tests were done.

    Thank you!

Moisture chamber glasses like WileyX or 7eye are a must for windy conditions and overhead fans.

Thanks farmgirl. I wear prescription glasses. I have bought foam lined wrap around glasses ordered from the US.. there were slightly cheaper brands on amazon as well. I hope those are fine as well. but have not got them fitted with prescription glasses.

They look odd though since walking around at work with those glasses will make it very conspicious There is so less awareness about dry eye, that I will come across as somewhat dorky
I also need to carry clear glasses to wear during night time as well. I suppose I should not worry about it, but letting the world know of a problem I am mostly fighting on my own is the challenge.

Sandisushi, you might try one of the clinics in India that offer scleral lenses, which have been used increasingly to help manage the dryness from dry eyes. I wear PROSE scleral lenses, and they are key in shielding my eyes from environmental factors and just giving me more comfort in general for daily functioning. I am aware of three clinics in India that offer PROSE sclerals, and usually the clinics offering them have a comprehensive group of doctors, facilities, equipment and treatments for dry eyes and other eye conditions. If you went to one of these clinics, you could likely get a more complete evaluation and treatment plan, and/or at minimum a consult to try on sclerals to see if it helps shield your eyes from wind and fans, and just feel more comfort in general. Not everyone can tolerate wearing sclerals, but you won't know unless you try it.

Here's some good general info on sclerals from the PROSE website:

Here are the PROSE clinics in India. I think the Sankara Nethralaya clinic is the closest to Bangalore:

You may also want to PM a member of this forum in India (below) who saw many eye specialists. Seems most of his doctors were not as far south as you live, and his issues were different, but he may still be able to provide you with some good doctor and clinic recommendations. He also went for a scleral consult, but it did not help his particular condition.

Thanks for teh pointers Hokucat. Without the fan and wind exposure , I am usually ok. Hence not considering options for sclerals. As of now I have seen cold packs on teh strained nerves also helps.
