  • Showering...

Well, this is a bit embarrassing and it must sound like I'm 5 years old, but I dread taking showers nowadays because I can't do it consistently without getting water/shampoo/conditioner/face wash in my eyes. My eyes get red and irritated for 30 minutes after, never used to happen before dry eye disease. No matter how hard I try, no matter how hard I close my eyes. I even hang a towel over the shower door and I pat my face and eyes after every rinse. My next step is to get a pair of swim goggles or try a baby shampoo, that was recommended on the forum years ago when I searched it.

Anyway I'm wondering if others have found clever solutions to this problem or could even recommended some hair care products for adults that are less harsh. Grateful for any tips.

Ahh yes! When my dry eye saga began, that was the first symptom I noticed. Chlorine in the water is just a no-no for my eyes now.

In terms of products, whether or not a person is a dry eye patient, they should aim for the cleanest cosmetics. I frequently have used website https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ to see how different products compare.

I personally use Carina organics (unscented). Of course, tolerance for cosmetics is very individual. I am allergic to all of the pencil eyeliners, even eco ones.

When I was my hair, I make sure the soapy water does not run down my face (my hair is dyed). So I face the shower head with my back and I bend my neck so that I am looking up a bit. In a way, I am imitating the way the hairdressers wash clients’ hair.

I make sure I pat my face dry even if it is just water when I wash my face. I think it has gotten better a bit or I just have a better routine.

good to avoid Sodium lauryl/laureth/coco Sulfate as it removes oil
good to have soap-free, eye tolerance (not burn eyes) - some products show these

Try not to close eyes too tight.

      Hope this helps. Good luck!

Helpful, thanks both! I bought swim goggles and so far seems to be an easy solution, I just leave them in the shower and put them over eyes when rinsing, my showers are faster not having to constantly wipe/pat water away from eyes and forehead. Will also look into a line of organic and soap free products for sensitive eyes, what a smart idea.
