    Hi,

does sone know this japanese eye steamer?
The device does cost about $130-160 in the USA.
In the english texts I can't find the temperature this device does achieve infront of the eyes.
Such a device may work better than a facial sauna and may also be more confortable.

A higher temperature than 40C and a longer running time would be great.

    Hi Peter,

No response at all till now. That surprises me a bit because to me this device sure does seem to be very effective.
It beats the microwave Heated compresses i guess.

pretty sure someone has mentioned this before and said it wouldnt be significant enough steam/heat to do much for the glands, but i could be wrong. it would at the very minimum be relaxing and comforting on the surface itself

            Hello Patrick,
it is good to read that at least some people here are still thinking about such important issues!

It would be nice to have such a device with two temperature levels.
Not only the about 40C in front of the eyes, but also a 50-55C one.
Furthermore the device should get an additional power supply - power pack.

The Panasonic eye steamer is more convinient to use especially while travelling or making a long journey,
than a facial sauna or facial steamer.
Even for the at home warming ups of mild to moderate MGD treatments, this eye steamer is easier
to apply than a facial sauna.
The effects should be similar to that of the Blephasteam goggle, but more convinient too.

Here some MGD patients have ordered this device, to try if it does work for the weekly MG expressions.

Such long term weekly MG expressions are the only good working and successful therapy available today!

I am still puzzled about the MIBO device - therapy.
What they are showing in the video is more looking like a joke.
Placing the head of the MIBO for a few seconds onto the lids and then pressing a little bit.
            They are stating a temperature of 108F = 42C.
If that is the temperature of the outer lid surfaces being achieved, it is much too low to liquify the obstructions.
We do need at least 40C at the lid insides - Lipiflow 42.5C.

So if the MIBO will achieve after some minutes of application 40C+ at the lid insides, that will be great for the MG MANUAL expressions.
Do ophthalm have the time or taking the time placing MIBO head for 5-10 min onto the lids manually?

By the way, how you are doing.
            What's about the Tacrolimus creame.

              Hello peter,

Yes,you're right with the temperature there. A device like the panasonic steamer should have at least two temperature levels to make it useful for different people with different needs for more or less heat. For instance people who just need it for soothing and relaxing the eyes probably prefer a lower temperature than people who need it to be a lot warmer in order to sufficiently melt hardened meibum to express the mg's properly.
What is the running time of the battery pack? If it's not that long a second battery pack indeed would be handy.
I don't know the mibo device, but to me it seems it can never be very effective because the operating temperature is too low and if the time it is applied is too short it won't be able to liquify opaque meibum.
I don't do warm compresses anymore, but when i still used to do them regularly i always heated up the ricebag at least two times and applied the heat for at least 10 minutes. Expressed the mg's and then have irritated eyes and eyelids for the rest of the day. It aggravates my eyes too much and my mg's aren't all that clogged anyway. When i put a little pressure on the mg's they always produce liquid meibum. Not thick, but just unhealthy appearance,a bit olive oil-ish and afterwards i see a lot of small particles floating on my corneas.
As for the tacrolimus. Been using it twice per day for 6 weeks now. Unfortunately i can't say i see any improvement at all. In contrary applying the ointment twice daily disrupts my tearfilm enormously. It stings, irritates, makes my eyes red and causes my eyes to produce reflex tears for hours. Very tiring. After these symptoms subside a bit the normal dry eye pain returns with a venegance. Frankly,i prefer the ointment induced irritations. At least the reflex tears make my eyes very moist. It hurts, but they're moist.
Another thing is that i don't know what i can expect from this drug. Not at all. The tacrolimus comes without a user's guide. Can't find very much on the internet as well. For humans anyway. A lot has been described for veterinarians. Who speak very highly about tacrolimus by the way. It seems that it is much more potent than the other immunomodulator cyclosporine.
The pharmacist can't tell me what to expect to. She doesn't know. She is very curious about my experiences though, because every time i go to the pharmacy she comes to me and asks how i'm doing and so.
It is a three months course combined with 100mgs doxycycline per day the full 3 months and fucithalmic antibiotic ointment 1 week per month. I emailed my ophthalmologist last week with some questions about this course and tell her my experiences with it till this point. I very much want to know when i can expect some improvement.
Actually personally i think with a serious eye disorder like mine and the type of drugs the ophthalmologist has prescibed a follow up visit somewhere in the middle of the treatment would have been appropriate. Just to give me as the patient here the opportunity to discus things with the doctor. An assistant could do a quick check up on tbut and schirmer to see if things are starting to improve a little by now. Nothing of that. Just 'here is your prescription, good luck and see you in three months'.
On the other hand,i am patient and there is still another 6 weeks to go. We'll see what the results will be at the end of the 3 months. I am really determined to bring this to a good end,but it most certainly is not an easy task. At times i feel this whole undertaking is exhausting me. Been battling dry eye for over 6 years now.

              Patrick..

The downsides with BlephaSteam is it takes too long to warm up, there's only one temperature setting and it's not high enough in my opinion. However, I like the fact you can still see through them. I use them whilst doing computer work and continue pressing the button for a second and third session. By the, my meibum has definately liquified to some extent!! I don't have time to lay down with an eye device i can't see out from, I prefer to be doing something whilst it's working and BlephaSteam is useful for that.
Using steamrooms or dry sauna's at a gym is also very effective and at a much higher heat than BlephaSteam.
