I've been to five ophthalmologists for my dry eye so far and I feel like I've received only the most common diagnostic tests for dry eye: Shirmer's test, TBT, Visual examination, and a blood test for Sjrogen's.
After quite a bit of reading on this forum though, it seems like many of you are having done other tests like Meibography, Demodex evaluation, Lids and Conjuntiva culture, Flourescein clearance test, etc.
This leaves me confused as to what I should expect (demand) for testing from a competent dry eye specialist in order to determine both the condition of my glands and eyes and a better feel for the cause of my discomfort. I feel I've never been given a good diagnosis of what is at the root of my problem; bad oil? under-producing glands?
And if I should expect more than just the most common diagnostic testing, should ANY ophthalmologist be able to perform such tests? Are these more advanced test something only a few doctors are doing or should I be expecting this everywhere?
