  • Dailies total 1

Hey everyone, I know that contact lenses should be avoided by dry eye sufferers, however I’ve heard rumours that DAILIES TOTAL 1 are good for people with dry eye. I’ve tried them a few times and they definitely feel more comfortable than regular lenses, and made my eye feel better than if I didn’t have any in. However, I took them out after 3 hours for fear that I could be further damaging my eyes. The actual size of the lenses is much bigger than regular lenses so this could be why they feel ok. My questions are...

    1. Has anyone worn these lenses before? If so, how did you find them?
    2. Should I just avoid these lenses altogether?

    kind regards

hi SirDryEye this might interest you:

TBH wearing normal contacts with dry eyes seems a little odd.

Have you seen Rebecca Petris latest blog on contacts? https://www.dryeyezone.com/dryeyeblo...rying-contacts

    I wonder what others think?

Thank you - it looks like I wasn’t the only one finding these lenses helpful. I believe that these lenses aren’t harmful as long as you...

      1. Wear them for only a few hours
      2. Don’t wear them everyday - just days when you could really do with wearing contacts

Wearing lenses 6 hours a day is a recipe for disaster. Also think about the environment that you are wearing lenses in. I’d never personally use contact lenses whilst using the computer/watching tv.

I’ll continue the experiment with them and see if my condition improves, worsens, or remains pretty much the same.

My advice would be to ditch contacts entirely. I know you've heard it before, and most people ignore this advice. But you don't want your disease to progress to the point where you're suffering like some people are on these forums. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If you do wear them, stick to your 3 hour limit, or even better, just for special occasions (weddings, a job interview). How your eyes are feeling may not be a good indicator of how your eyes really are. Some people wear their contacts long past when they should because their eyes feel OK, little do they know they're doing long-term damage until one day, they won't be able to wear them at all. Best of luck.

diydry Ok thanks diydry, I rarely wear my contact lenses - the most i’d ever wear them would be once a week for 3 hours tops - I also use eye drops every hour once they’re in. However I’m not going to wear them at all till I feel like my condition has improved and I’ve at least got plugs. my eyes are very dry but fortunately I’ve still got lots of treatments to try so I’m not too worried yet - there’s still hope!

I do understand the feeling because sometimes when eyes are feeling better, it's tempting to want to put the contacts back in, but I think it's important to impose solid limits. In your case 3 hours a week seems unlikely to pose much harm, if you are seriously sticking to that i.e. maybe you're putting them on when you go for a jog or something. And as always, ask your doc.

I'm hopeful for you too, best of luck!
