  • Dry/rough eyelid margin, anyone else has the same issue?

Update November 13/2018 I have super mild conjunctival folds if any so that was probably not the issue. I have no idea what it was but this sensation went away and comes back rarely. Like once a month if at all. Fingers crossed it will stay that way.

    Hi everyone!

Does anyone have a sensation as if the lower eyelid is dry or the whole eye socket perimeter? It feels like my eye rubs agains something dry/rough on the bottom, especially if I squint. So so annoying.

edit July 30/2018 I notice it mostly in the morning, it is also there when I close my eyes. As if a small dust particle/small hair (foreign body) is stuck in the eyelid “pocket” under the bottom eyelid. It comes and goes but I don’t see any patterns. I would rank it between 2.5 and 4 on the discomfort scale with 5 being super annoying and 1 being able to forget about the sensation.

I have no corneal staining/no staining in that area/no conjunctival chalasis. My doc saw some hard oils and cleaned them off (with a debridement metal tool). It helped a little bit but not all the way.

I am so confused! My eyes do not necessarily feel dry when that happens and eyedrops sometimes do not help much.

Are you referring to a foreign body sensation? Are your corneas clear / do you have staining? It could be SLK.

I don’t have corneal staining, no. It is only in the lower eyelid whereas SLK is usually upper, right? I guess you can call it foreign body but it feels to be stationary so depending where I look I feel it more or less.

SLK is usually upper, but can happen on lower as well. Yes, it can be stationary as well. It could also be Conjunctivochalasis.

deep_dry_eye thank you! So I am guessing you don’t feel that sort of sensation?

I guess it warrants a trip to the optometrist, ughhh, seems like my eyes run my life.

Make sure u get a good one, both SLK and Conjunctivochalasis are usually missed by "regular" opts. You need a dry eye expert.

deep_dry_eye yepp, people I see locally are as close as I can to dry eye specialists. At least they have Keratograph and the IPL machine. I will see another doc later in August.

The doc did debridement that helped to an extent but not all the way. He did not see inflammation, bumps, or staining, just hard oils. I have been doing warm compresses regularly followed by gentle massages and wiping with a wet Qtip.

No chalasis/no SLK. Thank you for pointing me in that direction though!

Sometimes the sensation goes away for many hours only to return later and linger for hours/days again.

What's your treatment protocol? If you have hard oils, I hope you're doing IPL, Xiidra and hopefull Restasis + azithromycin as well !

deep_dry_eye correct! Restasis and IPL (2 more to go). For bacteria Avenova. I used the antibiotic a while back but it does not do much for me. Oddly enough the oils are fine after being expressed but I am having trouble keeping them unplugged by myself.

Try Xiidra, I find Xiidra to be much better than Restasis. I am also on monthly IPL, sometimes 6 IPLs isn't enough.

Antiobiotic wipes are different than azithromycin. The idea of azithromycin is that these macrolide antibiotics can somehow reduce inflammation and change the gland secretions.
