  • Male hormone results

    Hi all.

After reading Dowork123 and other information regarding the role male hormones play in dry eye, I decided to get mine tested via https://www.forthwithlife.co.uk/.

I've just had my results back.

Follicle Stimulating Hormone 3.46 IU/L (normal)
Free Androgen Index 21.77 Ratio (low)
Free Testosterone (calculated) 0.169 nmol/L (low)
Luteinising Hormone (LH) 3.74 IU/L (normal)
    Oestradiol (Oestrogen) 20.5 pmol/L (High)
    Prolactin 425 mU/L (high)
    Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin 51.9 nmol/L (normal)
    Testosterone(total) 11.3 nmol/L (normal)

Not sure what that all means for dry eye.

Appreciate any feedback you may have.

    Thanks in advance.

I am not sure what it means exactly, but here is a Mayo Clinic source https://www.mayomedicallaboratories....rpretive/83686

You probably already know that androgen hormones control the functioning of the meibomian glands which provide the oil layer on your eyes. So if your dry eye is caused by meibomian gland dysfunction, this information could be a huge step toward identifying the source of your dry eye and finding a solution.

Oh brother, you most likely need testosterone supplementation. High estrogen and prolactin will upregulate the inflammatory response. They did your shbg also that's great...would love to see your tsh, t4 and t3.

Just know that if you take testosterone its a forever thing. You can always stop, but your testosterone will always be lower than before you used test. I can tell you this, I'm not sure it did much for my eyes...but it did a lot for my mood, healing ability and stamina.

        Hi Dowork123

        TSH 1.62 mlU/L (normal)
        T4 free direct 14.3 pmol/L (normal)
        T3 fee 4.29 pmol/L (normal)

I've just done a test for hs-CRP to check general inflammation markers.

My GP has now taken bloods (whole bloody arm full to test everything because of my age) and I'm awaiting those results. Be interesting to see how they compare.
