One day I woke up and I felt that my eyelid was heavy on my right eye, I thought that it could have been caused by a lack of sleep, days went by and it did not go away, I decided to visit my optometrist to find out what it was. I was told that I had MGD and that I should to hot compresses and take Omega 3 pills. The day after I planned on going to the gym with my friends but stayed home as I was tired, I had time to spare so I looked up what MGD was and found it that it can cause dry eye, the more I read, the more discouraged I got as I was reading that it is not cured and I would likely have to spend the rest of my life with it. I was bedridden for 2-3 days, lost my appetite and felt just sick to my stomach. It was not because of the pain from my dry eye, but trying to cope with the fact that I have to live the rest of my life with it. I felt down and am still feeling down, but then I remembered that the night before I woke up with the heavy eye symptom, I was cooking with my dad, and we forgot we had left the spaghetti still cooking on the stove, when I walked into the kitchen I saw the pot smoking so I took it off the stove and put on the ground, but while doing this, some smoke had gotten into my eyes, and it had caused my eyes to feel like they were burning for a bit and water. I feel like this is the reason why I have gotten dry eye, and I believe I have a chance of getting cured because maybe my Meibomian glands are not working properly due to what happened and not some other factor. If this is the case what could I do now to have my dry eyes go away if that is even possible?

Welcome. Great you have visited dr.
Did dr take gland images, examine your oil quality (clear, thick, etc), lipid layer thickness, inflammation?
These are very important to decide if treatment like LipiFlow, IPL etc are needed to unblock glands etc.
MGD is progressive and if treat it earlier, it is easier.
Yes, smoking, dry/bad air are bad for dry eye so comestics,
excessive use of pc/mobile phone, poor diet (sugar for example).
You are young and proactive, I am sure you can manage it.
Best collect all objective data so you can deal it more effectively/economically.
Lid hygiene is also very important for MGD.
Good luck!Last edited by MGD1701; 20-Aug-2018, 09:47.

Lid hygiene is also very important for MGD, especially with problem upon waking-up.
