One of my biggest issues with my eyes is sleeping with my eyes open. I've discovered that they pop open if I'm in an extreme downward gaze. So if I look forward, close my eyes then look down, they open. There is literally no way for me to control it.
So I was noticing when I sleep completely flat on my back, I tilt my head backward on my pillow and stare downward. I realize that it's just the way my eyes sit when I'm sleeping flat. So I adjusted my pillows so that my head was on a 45 degree angle. That kept my head from pushing back and it kept my eyes from forcing their gaze downward. I feel great. The day before I had a bad night sleep. My eye itched and I pulled the bandage to scratch it and didn't put it back on right. So my left eye yesterday felt like someone ran a thin needle down the center of it. Today it's perfectly fine. If you sleep with eyes open this may help you....I sure hope it does anyway.
EDIT: you still need to cover your eyes and use a gel or ointment if you already do. There's no guarantees you won't move and pop those lids open....but having them open for 2 hours as opposed to 6-8 is exponentially less damaging and much easier to recover from.
