  • Thyroid eye disease information

This is a great video on thyroid eye disease. It explains all the emotional and physical symptoms seen with this disease. This guys in Michigan, they have a team of doctors up there in Ann Arbor. He may be of help to you, they do all eye issues but specialize in thyroid.

Women are most likely to get this, but when men get it, it's much worse. For me, the biggest take away is how this emotionally effects you. In my case, dry eye didn't cause my depression, the depression was another symptom of my systemic disease. The first video does a great job painting a picture of what a TED patient looks like AND acts like.

This one is very technical and actually not as informative as the above video in regards to diagnosis. Still great overall summary of TED.

This final one is also really good, explains the surgical procedures that can fix the disease.

Looking at the first video I clearly dont have graves thyroid disorder.

My issues are ice cold hands and feet. Sometimes cold head. Sweat like a faucet. I can put my hand down on a table and pick it up and it looks lika glass of ice water dripped all overall. I can sweat through an entire shirt, every inch in a very short time just being nervous. Clamy hands and feet, so in winter my feet get blue from wet + bad circulation + low temperature. But overall was in excellent health. Metabolism like an inferno. I would eat 6 times a day and if healthy food i would gain maybe a pound a month while lifting 3-4 times a week seriously. I stopped eating like that and went from 178lbs to 154 lbs since late june. 24 lbs of nearly all muscle mass lost. Took me years to gain.

I did start taking kelp and selenium twice a day. I feel much better after a few days. Less eye pain. Who knows. I start IPL tomorrow and will ask the doctor about my eyes of course. Ask for azithromycin gel or pills to help liquify oils.

I see my GP in hometown on the 31st and will bring a long of stuff to talk about. I did a huge blood test, must have been a dozen tubes, everything normal.

Yeah, I don't have graves either..I have hashimotos. For me, I get hyper and hypo, I flip between both. So I don't present like a graves patient. However, that's actually why it took so long to diagnose. My eye bulge, is almost unnoticeable. But it's enough to make me feel this bad. My whole life I was hot, wear shorts in the winter, sweat profusely in the winter, sweat my sheets through in my bed constantly, eat and near impossible to gain weight (hence the steroid use)...so two years ago, I'd been off steroids a while, was eating "normal" food and I noticed I was cold. I was cold all the time, lost a lot of motivation, had slightly dry eye (barely noticed it). Then the abrasion tiggered an inflammatory response.

I get my labs back tomorrow, so I'll know for sure what's going on tomorrow. Of course I'll update...but I'm certain enough it's thyroid that I've been speaking of it as fact. I mean, you know what blew my mind. When that dr said that girl was being a piece of crap to her parents, smoking, just became a vile person. They diagnosed her with bipolar...then her eyes bulged and the dr saw her. He said she wasn't bipolar, it was her thyroid. I've been diagnosed bipolar since 2007. All the drugs they give me to help it, make me suicidal, they don't work. Marijuana is the only thing that helps...I feel that it helps because most of my life I was hyper thyroid...now I think my thyroids burning out. So I don't even think I'm bipolar man. I think I have a thyroid problem. It fits my life so let's see. If this is thyroid...it should get better soon so that's good to know .

EDIT: I also thought they would be close to you and they have a team of doctors that could diagnose your issue. I really want you and dano to get an answer.

Yeah my issue could ne complex but the ither side is i have plenty of tears but all my oil glands are blocked.

Could be thyroid issue going on. I will ask GP. sadly Univ if MI is out of network insurance for me. And a 4 hour drive. I could ask and try to see a rheumatologist there though. Just so annoying trying to juggle all these appointments with eye pain, long drives, goggles, needing lots of sleep and rest, etc.

          Hi edmunder
GLA - not sure if you have added this. Note brand PRN does NOT have GLA like HydroEye.
Persoanlly I find more effective combined with GLA and there are many reports on this.

I'm not sure if it's autoimmune or thyroid for you...I just thought it was close and would possibly give you an answer either way. The fact that they have a rheumy, endo, optho, etc all under one roof, figured you could run the gamut and see what they find. But it's not close and not in your insurance coverage so my bad lol.

I use vital nutrients black currant seed oil for GLA. They do third party testing on all their products. I also use hydroeye 3x a day and take a phospholipid based omega 3.

Thanks MGD i take both PRN and hydroeyes. For about 5 weeks now.

I may make a list of my vitamins. Its a very long list. I figure i want my body to be as good as possible while doing lipiflow and IPL.

                  Omega 3, 6
What I have read is if you have never taken omega 3, you need large amount in the beginning &
normally take 2-3 months to see results.
My blood tests for both actually almost double but I only feel results after adding GLA.
