  • Cornea erosion due to dry eye

I am hearing people say they get cornea erosion in wind or whatsoever. What is cornea erosion like?
Sometimes I get sore eye in wind but I am not sure if it is the same as cornea erosion. I also sometimes feel pain in my eye. I think it is in the Sclera not cornea.
Another thing is sometimes I go to doctor and he says I am staining on cornea but I don’t feel any pain! Anyone experienced this?

When I get an erosion, and I realize I’ve had a lot of them, it’s always a similar experience. My first one, didn’t know itcat the time, happened when I was in the NICU with my daughter. Stressful time, barely sleeping, the injury just happened so I’m in maximum pain. I went down to visit my daughter and here was a vent above her crib. I’m standing there and all of a sudden it feels like one tiny grain of sand broke loose in my eye. I blinked a few times uncomfortably and then it went away. Weird thing is, my eye felt better but only for a short time. I naively thought when it happened, my cornea had this hunk of skin that needed to come off, my eyes healed, nope lol. I’ve had at least a half dozen daytime erosion like that. The worst one was in Vegas, walking from my casino to another one, once I got there and say down to eat...I could feel lots of sand pulling apart in my eyes. The back of my lids were sticky feeling and if I just gently close my eyes, it felt like the lid was pulling skin off my cornea like Velcro.

my night time erosions, I had 3. The worst one was the last one when I was wearing the eyeseals 4.0. The rubber material of the mask actually pulled my lids open and lifted off the bottom of my face. That erosion was painful, the others were not in comparison. I didn’t get out of bed for 6 hours that day and took a 40mg OxyContin.

As for staining no pain. I do not have that, I have the opposite. I have pain and never have staining, even after an erosion. I know both are very common. Your situation is slightly more dangerous because you’re having issues and not feeling it.

Im going to give some unpopular advice that really helped me...lubricate lubricate lubricate. Set a timer, put in the drop, close your eyes for 5 mins or so and let that drop hydrate the ocular surface. You may have to switch brands til you find one that makes your eye feel moist. The oasis tears plus have been a godsend to me. I’d akso suggest autologous serum drops. They heal the cornea very well and they’re hypoallergenic, can’t go wrong, they offer extreme comfort. There’s a divide among opinions, some say, use drops less you’ll feel better, some say use more. I just feel like you need that surface moist all the time. Even at night, use an ointment...protect that epithelium from dehydration. My eyes have wayyyy less abberations when I wake up after I had ointment in my eye...so for me that was huge. I was trying to give my body a chance to make tears. But that want going to happen I realize now. I wasted a lot of time fighting the ointment, drops, night protection...I wish I could go back 3 months and slap myself lol.

      Thanks for the tips.

When I use too much drop my eyes really hurts. Just wondering if you have plug as well? When I had plugs, my eyes were hurting all the time. I guess it was because of inflammatory cells that were produced as I have ocular rosacea.

      Thanks

Until you get your eyes closing properly when you blink EBI you are going to continue to have problems. I think the most important thing for you is to do those blink exercises multiple times a day. I also suggest that before you start your blink exercises you put a drop into your eye to make sure that your ocular surface is well lubricated. If you feel any resistance at all during those exercises put in another drop.

When you do those exercises make sure that you are just closing the lids tight and not using the muscles around the eyes as in squinting you only want to use the muscles in the lid if that makes any sense.

Putting the drop in before the exercises is a pro tip. I can get a lot of rubbing sensation if I don’t do that.

LUBRICATE!!! Lol. If the drops you have are bothering you, try different brands and use them for a day or two before you decide they suck. Also, try to get that autologous serum. I’ve nevrr had serum bother my eye, it only helped, even using it every half hour.

Thanks for the tips. I have been doing blink excercise a lot lately. Hope to see some improvements at the end of my ipl treatment.
