  • Dry Eye and Sleep

I've noticed my eyes don't feel as bad from the dryness when I get good amount of rest (i.e. 7 - 9 hours of sleep). Anything less than that, my eyes feel worse.

    Any experience that?

Might sound stupid...but how is dry eye and sleep directly related?

I'm sure I read about lack of sleep contributing towards dry eye problems. It wouldn't surprise me. Lack of sleep definitely affects a lot of health issues.

It might just be coincidence but a few days ago I couldn't sleep. Ended up having just 2 hours sleep. My blepharitis symptoms were so bad that day. I don't get this much but that day I had very, very bad (and very visible) crusty eye-lashes. It looked like I had some weird yellow/cream mascara on them! I get the crusty lashes sometimes but not often and not usually that bad.

Thanks for your input! Ouch..at least now we know sleep has an effect on symptoms.

My dry eye is unbearable on those days as well. And I know exactly what you're talking about with the crust. Eck

There is no question that lack of sleep makes my dry eyes worse. I also notice they are quite a bit worse if I am tired. For instance even in the afternoon when I hit that lull after lunch that is pretty common with a lot of people, my eyes are dryer.

Yes, after lunch or late afternoon when I start getting really tired..the grittiness and irritation hits. Guess I should try my best to limit those sleepless nights hehh.
