  • A couple of questions

    Hi all,

I have the occasional flare ups of infections on my eyelid, which leads to loss of (permanent) eyelashes. I have much less eyelashes than before and I am very afraid I will lose them all. I have been to the doctor and he has given me fucithalmic antibiotics to use 6 months ago. I had to use it for 3 months. But sometimes now it comes back. The last times an existing small chalazion flared up again , but most of the times it is mild pain.

Is this pain because of the hard scrubbing of my eyelid? I get these minor pains often but they go away after max 2 days.

Is there a way to avoid losing all my eyelashes? how do you guys deal with the loss, or you don't lose eyelashes?

Is there any legal doctor who would prescribe antibiotics to use for a lifetime?

    Thank you!

    Hi,

I'm probably not the best person to give advice since I'm still struggling to get anywhere with my eye doctors! But I just wanted to say that you're not alone in losing eyelashes. I've lost quite a few of mine. One eye is worse than the other. I also had some growing in the wrong direction.

Have you seen an opthalmologist or just a general doctor? If it's still going on after so many months, you should ask to be referred to a specialist. I know it's not easy pushing for help (I've just been posting the past few days for help on this) but you have to try.

I was prescribed an antibiotic (Doxycycline) for 3 months. It didn't make any difference to my eyes and I was told at my last appointment they would stop it now. But I've been advised on here that it can be worth taking it for a longer period as some people take longer for it to work. Don't know if that's the case with you.

Are you doing the hot compresses on your eyes? I've just stopped doing that because it was making my eyes worse (and I was losing more eyelashes) but it's been suggested to me that some people do better with cold compresses, which I've just started.

Hope you get your eyes sorted.
