  • Meibomian gland blocked/infected

I never thought it was possible, however it seems like this has now happened.

Woke up with quite a sore left eye. Recently I have stopped doing the hot compress and this may be cause. Given that I was doing the hot compress for a period of time and now have more or less stopped it seems that one of the glands got blocked and then infected.

Has this happened anyone else on the forum?

I am now thinking that the hot compress will need to happen to get the oils moving on this particular gland.

If I stop compresses, everything goes downhill very quickly. I've got to use compresses and do expression three times daily, or life becomes difficult. It's a pain, but you've got to be ruthless about the regimen. Best wishes to you.

Thanks LaDiva. This morning it was quite swollen. I guess hot compress to get the oils moving followed by cold to reduce the swelling. Oh the joys!!

I think you are spot on in that the regime should be adhered to as much as possible. Its such a tricky condition to manage.

      Thanks for your advice!

You are welcome kh! Hope things resolve quickly for you.

          Cath:

          3X daily-
Rebecca's Rice Baggy warmed 35 seconds in microwave and let cool until comfortable on eyes
5 minutes with rice baggy on eyes (or more)
Q-Tips to express glands between the eyelash base and inner lid (press gently for five seconds all along the lash margins)
Rinse each eye with saline solution
Scrub with Ocusoft Scrubs morning and evening, and rinse lids

Cath, I forgot to add that the Q-Tips are dipped in hot water, and then I squeeze excess water out before using them on the eyes.

if you are from US, you can try Advanced i-lid cleanser from Novabay. I don't really understand why US based people don't want to give it a try.
Unfortunately it's prescription only, so we in Europe can't try it. But I would really like to give it a chance. It could have a potential. Maybe later it will be possible in Europe as well.
