Has anyone else used Azasite just on the eyelids? What was your experience with this treatment?

I've finally gotten things mostly under control by using warm compresses, lid massage, and fish oil supplements. My right eye feels much better now (almost normal). However, my left eye is not so good. It is almost constantly swollen and inflamed to some degree, more so when I'm emotionally stressed/upset, exposed to chemicals, certain foods, etc. It reacts to all the typical rosacea triggers. So I suspect there is rosacea in that eyelid. The MGD glands are still somewhat clogged in that eyelid from all the extra inflammation. I'd like to try Azasite to help reduce the inflammation cycle and hopefully clear up this eyelid. I've read many documented studies citing how useful and successful this drug has been in reducing inflammation in some cases of MGD, ocular rosacea, and blepharitis, by rubbing it into the eyelid. I want to try this approach but I don't know what doctor to go to who will prescribe it. I hate going to multiple eye doctors searching for someone who will give it a try. (the testing drops and dyes doctors use are really irritating to my sensitive eyes!) How can I find an eyelid doctor that would be open to this mode of treatment? I'm in Northern Virginia.

Thanks for the reply! I have read about IPL and I am considering it. However, I'm apprehensive about the procedure. Rosacea is on my upper lids so the eye would have to be protected. The metal contact used to shield the eye sounds very uncomfortable and scary. Is there 100% protection to the eye and 0% chance for damage to eye? Other than those fears, I think IPL might be the way to go. Also, where can I find a real expert at doing IPL? I wonder if there are any in my area.sigpic

As for eye protection, I can’t lie, I was terrified during the procedure. On one occasion I opted for the metal goggles because I could see the light from under the shield somehow.
Even if you don’t do the upper lid, the procedure is still worth the benefits.

Hi. I have been using Azasite for almost 10 years now for MGD that started after I did Lasek. I only found someone to help me thanks to Rebecca who owns this site! He was a dry eye specialist back then which was unusual. I wasn't aware there was even an alternative med out there currently. Seems like there only is if you are in EU? Would love to find something new since the price has more than doubled for me in the past year. Luckily a bottle lasts for a year and half for me since I use it every few days. I only put it on my eyelids. We recently moved and my new primary doc is willing to prescribe to me when I need it. Haven't even found a new eye doc yet. I think Azasite and my decision to start Tranquileyes goggles at night were the game changers for my condition. It's been pretty well managed ever since. I would love find a replacement for my goggles though. I am thinking about trying the bandages but they seem pretty spendy if I need to wear them nightly.
