  • Advice on trimming very long Eyelashes?

I have very long eyelashes, which are, traditionally speaking, nice to have, BUT in combination with my rather prominent, protruding eyes, I find that they definitely get in the way when wearing glasses (even concave wraparound styles, or in my recent experience, the Eyeseals mask).
From what I have gathered, this is probably a bad idea all things considered, but has anyone here ever successfully trimmed their eyelashes? And if so, how or by whom? Any input or advice appreciated.

I do not have this problem so I can't answer from personal experience. My suggestion would be to ask either your doctor or your hairdresser to do it. I would certainly not try to do it myself.

      Hi MGD666,

First I just wanted to commiserate a little because I have the same problem. I also thought they were nice to have before, now they can really be annoying. I agree with saralynn, I certainly would not try this myself. In fact I don't think you should do it at all. Head hair grows faster and longer after being cut, so if eyelashes are the same way you may just make things worse. I think you should keep looking for glasses that work instead. If you're looking for a pair of wraparound sunglasses (without seals) try RayBan style RB 4033. After much trial and error I finally found these which fit well, just miss my lashes and give enough protection that I don't need gaskets (my eyes have improved so that's partly why). Have you found anything in a wraparound with clear lenses that works for you? That's my next project. Looking for something that will fit a small face, and I don't care if they come with gaskets as long as they are removable. Thanks!

Very clever username by the way.

Thanks for the replies saralynn and Nightbird. Yes, I would not attempt to trim my own, so perhaps I will check with some local salons. In the end, I will probably not do it, due to the reasons mentioned, but it would be nice if someone specialized in doing this. As far as eyewear goes, I have found some glasses and goggles that work for me (as well as the Aquasphere Seal XP swimming mask ~ http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000ENST7E/...ter_B004BIXK1S

and those cheapo "chemical splash", fit-over plastic goggles with foam edges ~http://www.amazon.com/Sellstrom-8133...+Anti-Fog+Lens

As well as having big eyes and lashes though, I have a large head, with a wide face - so I would not be one for good advice since you mentioned you have a small face. And even though they were too small for me, I did like the 7eye Cape frame, as well as the Diablo as they both had easily adjustable temple lengths and seemed to fit well with or without the gasket (unlike almost all of the others, which were very loose without the gasket in place).

My favorite of all though is the one I currently have which is not mentioned much here - Liberty Sport "Trailblazer" which has magnetic dry eye cup inserts, and fits me perfectly, with or without the cups in place. For smaller faces, they also make a similar frame called the "Rider" which is basically the same deal, just with a slightly smaller frame and eyesize. The gaskets in either case are made of a soft rubber, as opposed to the foam used in the Wiley and 7Eye. I actually prefer it.
