  • Does weather effect your DES?

Wondering if anyone else has noticed this, it may sound weird but I live in the pacific northwest, during most of the year yes, it rains. Here's the weird part, in the summer my eyes are so improved they are almost normal. We have had warm/hot summer extending into September, well today is a bit cooler and damp, my eyes are really acting up. You would think the extra moisture in the air would make them feel wonderful, I'm not sure if it is the moisture or lower temp. But I will say the dead of winter when it is really cold is the worse time for me, it took me a long time to really notice this, guess I'm slow. Do any of you have trouble with climate?

Climate factors can be complex but by and large I tend to think it's more about climate control (heat, a/c) than climate itself. For example I am so much better off here in the PNW than I was in humid Tampa where every building you walk into is air-conditioned absolutely to death.

When our local weather cools down, the pollen and mold counts go up and I notice this. Perhaps that is part of what is going on with you as well. Sending good wishes.

Rebecca, I get what your saying about the AC/Heat, but thats what really confuses me, because we have AC, I even sleep with it on *one in Bedroom window too. You know how warm our summer has been this year, and yet my eyes were doing great until today, a few weeks ago when we had that wind and rain storm pass through they were bad then too, and cleared up when we turned hot again. I'm sad because the fall and winter months are just so long, and son getting married in January. I wish there was something I could do. I do agree that some systems are worse than others, I work in the hospital and my eyes are always worse at work. I have always loved our climate here, and was excited when I saw the rain today, sad that may change now that I'm seeing this difference. Maybe humidity has the opposite effect on us with DES?? I would have thought a damp and humid place would make our eyes feel wonderful. I do agree that the pollen and molds may play an even bigger role than most people, as I do have some allergies. Thanks for responding.

I'm in upstate ny and my eyes have been feeling a lot better lately as the temperature is falling.

Temp was at 50 to 60 range all week and eyes felt great. I HATE, absolutely abhor, the summer. From June to Mid September I'm hating it.

I have allergies big time. I take shots for them.

I believe that my eyes flaring up are a direct result of my body's response to allergens. Immune system is a crazy thing.
