I almost bought a paddle glad I didn’t. My MGD is from nocturnal lagopthalmos...so taping my eyes and doxy has thinned the oil nicely.
    What a coincidence!

I was considering buying a tearse meibomian gland expressor a month back. But I backed off after reading a post by Dr. ******.

Interestingly my blockage is also due to nocturnal lagophthalmos because I have noticed on multiple occasions that I had clear gland orifices at night before bedtime and in the morning after I woke up I found yellow translucent lipid plugs on my gland orifices.

I am considering a sleep mask over my eyes to see if it works.

Was the oil clear? If not what color and consistency? Did it come out fast or did it build slowly on the margin?

Yeah, the glands are sensitive and fragile. Sleeping on your side, smashing your face into the pillow causes gland issues...so imagine the metal paddle. Again, I think you can use it if you’re blocked, get it warm first so you’re not trying to push solids out. Just use it sparingly in the case that things get real bad and you can’t access a doctor.

Oil seemed pretty clear for the most part. For some portion of my lid I'm not sure anything came out though. Dr also told me my oil wasnt bad before for those glands which would produce oil. I think my problem is inflammation blocking the glands. IPL may be useful.

May I ask how this started? Was it sudden? injury?

                Are you taking doxy?

My my problem is inflammation 100% from keeping my lids open when I sleep. So find the cause and get at it!

I had very mild dry eye symptoms before lasik with contacts, but with glasses I was asymptomatic. Lasik just made it hell on earth for me.
I'm not taking doxy, not a big fan of all the side effects. I'll try IPL before.

I fought taking doxy for 4 months because I REFUSED to take an antibiotic. I was being stubborn, wish I started earlier. It’s one of the few things that actually gave me my life back. So, just a thought, may not work but you owe it to yourself to try. It’s the only way to attack the disease from inside the body. Ask for tablets not capsules, that will help with side effects.

You tried IPL before ? I read a lot of good stuff on it.

                        Just my two cents.
If you are going to try IPL, do not take doxycycline. They can’t do IPL on you while you are on doxy

Thanks for the note. Doxy would be my LAST resort.

Different people suggested Prokera and Serum to me. I have been taking serum for the last couple of days. I did not notice much difference yet. I probably do Prokera after my IPl treatment.

Sorry I just saw this....dont take the doxy before trying IPL if that’s the route you want to go. Ebi is correct, I believe it could effect your skin very badly. Although I’m on a large dose, and I go outside everyday to take my daughter for a walk and haven’t noticed any sides thankfully. Good luck.

Serum will not solve the problem, it's just a fix. IPL may solve the meibomian gland problem if those are inflamed and if the inflammation is the source of your problem. I am speculating it may be my case.
