Blinking when going to sleep

Just noticed this and wonder if anybody else has this, when I try to go to sleep or even just try and close my eyes they still blink every few secs as if they were open. I don't know if this happens while I am asleep but I can only stop it unless I close my eyes hard on purpose. If I just close my eyes normally which is lightly the blinking reflex carries on.

What could be causing this?

So are you saying that after you close your eyes, they open back up on their own and go through some blinks?

I have no idea what's causing that but if I got it right, I would think wearing moisture goggles at night, in your sleep, would be a necessity.
