I'm creating this thread to start a place for gathering information on breast implants/explants and dry eye. I've seen some discussion on two different facebook groups from members of a Breast Implant Illness group/page indicating there is ongoing discussion about women who saw symptoms resolve after removal. I find this particularly interesting because TFOS DEWS II does not list breast implants as a possible iatrogenic cause of dry eye - presumably because there's almost no peer-reviewed medical literature about it at all.
For the moment I'm just posting here a random collection of what came up in the first couple of pages of a search, for what it's worth (just the ones in medical journals, some quite old, some newer).
Can breast implants be responsible for dry eye?
A profile of symptomatic patients with silicone breast implants: A Sjögrens-like syndrome
Sjögren’s syndrome after silicone breast implantation
Silicone breast implants: correlation between implant ruptures, magnetic resonance spectroscopically estimated silicone presence in the liver, antibody status and clinical symptoms
Adjuvant Breast Disease: An Evaluation of 100 Symptomatic Women with Breast Implants or Silicone Fluid Injections
