  • Droopy eyelid inflammation, anyone else?

When using eye drops I developed inflammation under my top eyelids (official diagnosis "Superior Limbic Keratitis"), I was told I have slight droopy eye lids and this causes small friction during REM sleep. Though it has largely healed it still limits what I can do, e.g. I'm not supposed to rub my eyes or express upper lid, this limits my options for treating MGD, possibly even using lid hygiene products. Has or does anyone else have this or a similar problem? I feel like I'm only one limited like this.
prevention is better than cure, but not for eyes?

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to let you know you aren't the only one experiencing this. I have something very similar, maybe the same, called Theodore's SLK (superior limbic keratoconjunctavitis) from an unknown cause. When the doctor uses lissamine green dye, my limbal rings both stain, showing advanced signs of DED. They think it could be autoimmune even though so far I have tested negative for RA, SS, etc., but more testing is to come. They also think my upper eye lids could be too loose and blinking causes most of my pain and eye trauma. If I don't use enough artificial tears, they say it will get worse. It took a very long time to get my diagnosis from my eye doctor. He kept seeing the staining pattern for almost a year and finally gave me the partial diagnosis. Sounds like this is pretty rare and he thinks there is more to my case and will perform more testing later for MGD. For now, I am seeking a second opinion because he has suggested punctal cautery and another surgical procedure, along with 100mg doxy daily, Flaxseed oil, warm compresses with lid massage, and Xiidra/Lotemax (I have not started Xiidra/Lotemax yet).
Have you had any changes since your last post? I just read an article about great results from serum eyedrops used for treating SLK, I'm going to ask about it when I get my second opinion next week. Hope things have improved.

Thank-you for sharing this information. I have this condition as well and it is related to Hashimoto's Thyroiditis which took years to diagnose because my eye condition was constantly associated with severe dry eye. I felt very let down that I had a very clear symptom associated with Hashimoto's and even eye specialists overlooked it. I also have a droopy left eyelid which at times is quite pronounced.
I have had a lot of pain with this condition and because I'm being treated for preventing glaucoma, I can't use steroid drops which would previously help settle the symptoms.
I am to have surgery in the very near future and can only hope it helps.
