  • Dry Eyes Vs Eye Strain? Differences?

    Hello,

    I am a newbie here.

Given the overlap between eyestrain and dry eyes, its hard to understand the differences. Can you guys please help me out to understand the differences between these two conditions?

On Internet, dry eyes has been mentioned as symptoms of eye strain. I am not sure how these two are related.

Eye strain cause dry eyes, and vice versa. Is it true?

    Thanks,
    Ishank

From what I gather from this is, to have eye strain requires a lot of up close work often involved with computers. When you’re on a computer screen your blink rate declines significantly. With declined blink rate the water and oil lipids are not being spread over your eyes which then causes the eyes to dry out. After doing this for years (like most people) the meibomian glands in your eyes begin to atrophy and or the meibum caps “if you don’t use them you lose them”. I do believe if you already have dry eyes it is definitely easier to strain your eyes due to the oils and lipids not being there already the eye is already in an exhausted state and eye strain will come easy.
